I spent all Sunday reshelving records and realized I need to be more brutal with my thinning of the herd. I was literally cramming records into shelves using the shoehorn method. I think that's what I'll do today.

Choppity chop! The problem is, sometimes that makes you remember why you obtained the record and you end up keeping it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm

Indeed, Otis! I would buy that book. Your discussions on culling a collection - and also Martinibomb's additional suggestions - is what inspired me to go all Marie Kondo on my collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Rich in Washington:

@Granny Spicy Tuna @12:00: That's exactly part of the problem! I set a bunch aside and am occasionally randomly working them into my show sets and I remember why I bought them in the first place.

Radio was my lifeline as a kid. I remember tuning into our local community radio station and hearing classical music, an Arabic music program, Soul and R&B shows, and just sitting there on my dad's hi-fi with headphones and just be transported to another world.

I accidentally found KBOO while turning the dial. I heard the aforementioned Arabic music show. I would then tune into it every Sunday afternoon if I could.
Later on, I was similarly tuning the dial when I was a teenager and heard Bowie in the middle of the night, and from then on, my dial was permanently stuck on KBOO. Some amazing late night programming. Little did I know, I would decades hence become one of those weirdo KBOO DJs.

I am kicking myself for getting rid of them years ago, but I once found a bunch of cassettes at a Goodwill that said Red Lion Inn and had dates (Red Lion Inn was a hotel with lounge just on the river bordering Portland/Vancouver).
It was some unlabeled lounge act's tape archive and it was marvelous!
I think I got rid of them long before I got into digitizing tapes. Sad.
