greetings Marcel and begotten organisms

mariano regarding what you said a few minutes ago yeah i guess i'm busy and distracted from my thoughts all day,
until i'm not any more

Ken From Hyde Park:

Gizzards! That's quite the tragic bio for Begotten. What does not kill you makes you stronger, for sure.
  12:11am
BH:

need more songs mixing metal with movie soundbytes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am
Marcel M:

Big ups to my main man Charlie Boy for sending me that clip minutes before I started.
  12:25am
BH:

also, with LSU's national title win tonight, big opening for the concept of mixing Ed Orgeron's voice with heavy metal (some of the people reading this might need to go to YouTube to figure out what that would mean)

Great set by Begotten!

House full of teenagers, kid's mates. Gonna blast this, should get 'em out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
mariano:

What a strange world, when metal chases teens away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Lucky thing I finished the eggnog I bought the other day. These metal waveforms would turn it into buttermilk or separate the eggs out. Or maybe it'd transmute into gold or more likely arsenic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Aitch:

17 yr old girls, Monday afternoon, summer break, metal not really their vibe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am
coelacanth∅:

ha yeah especially when an adult can play metal to scare teenagers away! it's sad but i've used this method (and with punk) to do just that in the bar
Avatar 12:45am

so that's how you pronounce it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am

They can't bag me about old-man music either, Marcel's sets are like right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
coelacanth∅:

that's the best part -they can't say turn off your led zeppelin old man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am

You should play them some Nitocris, Aitch.

easier than quoting begotten the movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
coelacanth∅:

it's surely true. Rollins is on the mark much of the time...when he's not perverted by his fear and paranoia and arrogance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am
coelacanth∅:

nitocris is all-female right? or female-fronted?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am
Aitch:

@mariano I saw Nitocris way back, everyone else re-uniting, so why not? I point the kids at PJ Harvey, Le Butcherettes, Bikini Kill that sort of thing for a bit of girl-power.
Avatar 12:53am

FUCKING BRUTAL!!!
so glad i am able to tune in tonight, been so psyched for BEGOTTEN!
@ Ken From Hyde Park -- yeah, i was reading their bio right after i found out about this live set -- unreal, so grateful they have risen again
@ mariano, Aitch, coelacanthø -- yeah, "kids today," HAH! (recalling that scene from "Suburbia" where muzak is used to chase kids out of a "hardcore punk" club)
Avatar 12:53am
slugluv1313:

@ tak -- ah! i was wondering about "Begotten" the film too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am

i think Wm. Berger had a scene from that movie posted on his playlist page once

@ Aitch -- Patti Smith? The Slits? X-Ray Spex?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am

Their eyes glaze over....Patti Smith about to play Sydney, but $180/ticket....

Thanks begotten!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am

$180? What the fuck? Remember Dead Kennedys making fun of mainstream acts from their day: "You'll pay ten bucks to see me/on a 15-foot-high stage"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am
coelacanth∅:

...(i don't have much purchasing power. no begotten in my collection in the foreseeable future)

Avatar 1:02am

180aud is close to what i spent last year to get to see her band live. it was VERY memorable to listen to her "after the gold rush" acapella with a drone flying 10m above our heads. They made an effort to point out that woodstock was the greatest FREE festival, but i'm not sure The Man was listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am
Aitch:

Tickets to Stereolab and New Pornographers used up my gig allowance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am
coelacanth∅:

oh yeah mariano. i don't know what i paid to see dks -coulda been 6 bucks! i know it wasn't more than 20.
this when the rolling stones were charging $200, and they'd started sucking already anyway!
i wouldn't have paid even $20 to see them in 1983.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am
Ignatatus666:

@Aitch
Is that a fundraiser gig in Sydney?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am
coelacanth∅:

i saw Patti Smith at the guinness fleadh in the 90s and though it wasn't quite as it'd be to go to a regular concert i'm satisfied with that. she was Excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am
Aitch:

Nah, just upcoming shows, tickets bought before fires. The benefits will be dreadful, Queen with Adam Lambert etc. Nice of them all to do it, but I won't be there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am
Marcel M:

I spent large on Bauhaus.. me and the wife are going. Can't wait!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am
mariano:

I'm kicking myself for missing Bauhaus when they rolled through New Orleans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am
coelacanth∅:

i'd love to see bauhaus
Avatar 1:31am
slugluv1313:

@ Aithch -- YOW $180?! although kinda glad that Patti can command that kinda price nowadays (speaking as one who saw her numerous times back in the 70s, when so many of us had no money, and a lot of venues, critics, etc., saw no future in that evil "punk rock")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am
coelacanth∅:

what was cbgb, 3-5 bucks for 4 bands?
...didn't she/they play at max's kansas city a lot too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am
Aitch:

Bauhaus, me too. Bauhaus cover the artwork on my What Was music T shirt methinks. Been playing Tones on Tales to the kids lately. Not a big Patti fan, unlikely to ever come here again though, hence the gouging.
Avatar 1:36am
slugluv1313:

ughhhhhh i missed Bauhaus too!
(a friend had tickets, we were totally psyched! but, i ended up in the friggin hospital, had to have emergency surgery to remove my stupid gall bladder arghhhhh!)
Avatar 1:38am
slugluv1313:

yeah, all the clubs were super cheap back then -- Patti played all over the place in NYC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am
Aitch:

You cannot know life slugluv, until you have fd death in the gall-bladder!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am
coelacanth∅:

to be honest i'm not sure in what decade i went to cbgb! -twice, but i don't even remember who i went with.
- the 80s or 90s. i do remember it sucking like no other club i've ever been to sucking! the layout sucked, the acoustics sucked, the regular patrons sucked, the bathrooms sucked...etc. $5. for 4 total shit bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am
Aitch:

You're ruining my teenage imaginings @coelacanth∅ of seeing Suicide, Blondie, Talking Heads et al in the 70's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am
coelacanth∅:

in the 80s, i think, the continental was a place i went to a lot. then didn't for a couple of years and went back and it was also not what it once was.
a lot of good places up and running in the 90s though. (mercury lounge stands out)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am
Aitch:

Last NY gig I saw was Har Mar Superstar at The Mercury Lounge 2009, good venue, great show, very subdued crowd, perhaps an american thing? Crowd down here would have gone nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am
coelacanth∅:

with those guys there cbgb was probably worth it!
-i would've suffered through the other shittiness repeatedly if at least the music was good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am
coelacanth∅:

hmm, that's interesting. i've never experienced the crowd getting rowdy there either; but i wouldn't say it's an american thing.
def seen some craziness at other places. especially in new jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am
coelacanth∅:

okay i think i'm cooked maybe a little overcooked.
Thanks Marcel! Great program Great set by begotten!

saw The Cramps at CBGBs on my first "date" with the ex -- late 1977? early '78?
later we saw The Dead Boys there . . . lot of other bands too . . . oh sure it was a total dive but still,so much fun!
saw The Talking Heads my first year at college (1977) for a dollar at one of the smaller venues at Rutgers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am
coelacanth∅:

damn.
...yes mid-late 70s i would've gone to cbs a lot probably, if i was a tad older.
would've loved to've seen the 'heads back then; and ramones in that environment.
never did see the cramps either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am
coelacanth∅:

i think by the time i went there it had decayed and also was resting on it's reputation without actually booking anyone with creativity...and knowing they didn't have to fix anything or make anything non-disgusting because that was part of the scene, man, only for the hearty the punks... (and oh no -not the poseurs at all...)

too bad i didn't go there earlier.

-anyway i must attempt sleep.
