Beethoven, Ludwig  Sym. #4 Op. 60, Adagio, Allegro Vivace   Favoriting Symphonies Vol. 1  Musical Heritage Society    CD  CIty of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Walter Weller, conductor
Jefferson Airplane  3/5ths of a Mile in 10 Seconds (Listen: Pop-up)   Favoriting Bless Its Pointed Little Head

RCA    Vinyl  The Airplane were not a "good vibes" band like the Dead. They were also capable of rocking as hard as any Sixties band from Detroit, as one quickly learns by the completion of "3/5's Of A Mile In 10 Seconds" & "Somebody To Love," but can still make the hookah bubble on Donovan's "Fat Angel."

Schulhoff, a Czech-German, Communist with Soviet citizenship died in a Nazi camp. Generally, hip European composers between the World Wars had a much better inside understanding of jazz than American composers of that era. Zev Confrey, the American composer of "Kitten on the Keys," dug it deeper than Gershwin.

Scenic  Ionia (Listen: Pop-up)   Favoriting Acquatica      CD  Sloppy engineering on my part miscued into a another Scenic cut, wrecking the set's groove. Oh well.

Vinyl  1950's nipponotica, the porcelain doll courtesan, the repackaging of Japan as a quaint, harmless culture only a decade after they were kamikazing our carriers. Still, this is one one of my most treasured Lps. For a Japanese collector's take, Click Here
Joe Simon  In My Baby's Arms (Listen: Pop-up)   Favoriting Get Down  Spring  1975  Vinyl  A coupla years ago a young DJ at the station said my taste in funk & soul was "stuck in the Seventies." I think it was supposed to be a put-down. On the other hand, DJs Monica & $mall Change dig the stuff I select. So who should I believe?
