Ken From Hyde Park:

How could one say Naye to this duo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Faye:

Why hello Gaylord!! What punny company we have this evening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Nardo:

Can't believe I just missed Cleveland's home town hero and on WFMU even.
  8:08pm
Nate K:

Hey, Gaylord!

The first time I have ever heard Michael Stanley Band on WFMU! Such an amazing band and Michael has continued to make great records in the 35 years since the end of the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Faye:

Nardo you have to get here ON TIME!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
Aitch:

Bummer Nate's show on same time as Frow Show, need more ears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm

hahaha I know what you mean Aitch

Very informative. I eagerly await the city pop spiel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm

It's comin oso! Thanks for tuning in

"No it's not a joke, it's cards on the table time" from a NotCityRock song
Avatar 8:18pm
glennfromglendale:

Hey y’all, just tuned in and realized The Hold Steady might be city rock!
  8:19pm
Listener Terry:

Where would you put The Reducers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Faye:

hmmm maybe Nate has some perspective on those, Glenn & Terry
  8:20pm
b k:

Wow, Iron City Houserockers and Michael Stanley in the same show!
(Both have a Springsteen connection, Clarence Clemmons played on the Michael Stanley hit "Lover" and Springsteen often records and performs with Joe Grushecky, leader of the Houserockers)
  8:20pm
pp:

the arguably greatest Michael Stanley song is Rosewood Bitters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Faye:

oo thanks for the trivia b k!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Faye:

this song reminds me of a song by the mantles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
mariano:

Hello Faye and everyone!
  8:24pm
Gerard:

I know where I'd put the Reducers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Faye:

let's hear it Gerard
  8:24pm
Nate K:

I’ll have to investigate the Reducers further, not super familiar. “Cruise to Nowhere” is a title with city vibes, though, I’ll say that much. Hold Steady are probably more like city revival.
  8:27pm
Gerard:

sorry, I was going to send you a link to the New London, CT city landfill but there's actually a photo of the Reducers on that home page (NO JOKE) so they've beaten me to the punch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Kat in Chicago:

Is city rock performed exclusively by dudes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Faye:

Yeah who's the City Rock Riot Grrrl?
  8:31pm
b k:

The Iron City Houserockers album with "Junior's Bar" was produced by Mick Ronson and Steve Van Zant. On the album "Junior's Bar" is preceded by the great "Old Man Bar". Album was recently rereleased in a deluxe 40th anniversary edition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Faye:

@Gerard.... LOL
Avatar 8:32pm
Dave in SoDak:

I sent a few CDs in the past, but I'm sure they were 86'd. There are great - really great bar bands with great original songs and original styles, and they are completely ignored outside of their *cities*!!! Just sayin'. You can think you have heard it all but the truth is, there are at least a thousand other great bands out there that will never hit the who's who's. especially in the upper midwest. regardless, love the fact that that genre is being recognized in some small way. thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Kat @Faye: I'd like to think songs by someone like perhaps Patty Smyth or Pat Benatar might qualify. But Nate would know better, as I just heard of this subsubgenre a half hour ago.
  8:33pm
Gerard:

Kat, I think you could make a case for Genya Raven's 'Urban Desire' or '...And I Mean It' being City Rock. I mean, that would be a better courtroom drama than the Chicago 7 movie
  8:33pm
Listener Terry:

"Life in the Neighborhood","Scared of Cops","No Ambition" and "Black Plastic Shoes" are worth listening to to get an idea what they're about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Faye:

shout out to South Dakota! thanks for your comment Dave.
  8:35pm
Heather F:

I have already learned so much. Great juxtaposition Faye + Nate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Faye:

@Gaylord- out of anyone who's just learned about a genre...you'd be the one to make an accurate educated guess! Gerard sounds like he knows a think or two as well... thanks Terry too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Faye:

hahaha hi heatherrrrrr
  8:36pm
Nate K:

Kat, it’s a pretty male-dominated genre. I’d argue Pat Benatar flies the flag. And Joan Jett covered “Light of Day,” by Springsteen and performed often by Grushecky, so she definitely performed city rock, at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Faye:

ty for listening as always !!
Avatar 8:36pm
Dave in SoDak:

ty faye. :)
  8:37pm
Nate K:

@Gaylord, Pat Benatar for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm

@Faye @Nate: I just thought of a female-fronted city rock song: "Stillsane" by Carolyne Mas: www.youtube.com...

So nice! I hope I don't faynte from all the excitement.

I only learned about City Pop this year after reading New Waves by Kevin Nguyen. Thought it was made up until I decided to furtively look it up and had a good few hours delving. Glad to get immersed once more. Also, now I know City Rock!
