Rogue Wave Monday, February 7th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irene Trudel's show
These guys have the kind of album Irene wanted to immediately devour upon first listen. Catchy jangle-pop-folk is the essence of this Bay-Area based band, sprinkled with generous hints of
Kinks-acoustic Beatles-Shins-every singalong favorite you can name, without copy-catting the style. Rogue Wave just might be your new favorite pop band. Find out at 4 PM.
Andrew Horn, writer/director of "The Nomi Song" Friday, February 4th, 2005, 8pm - 11pm
on
Pseu Braun's show
Andrew Horn talks about his film "The Nomi Song" opening February 4 in both New York and Los Angeles. The subject of the film, Klaus Nomi, looked like an alien and sang like a diva. He was a cult figure in the New Wave Underground who sang pop music
like opera and brought opera to club audiences. On the verge of
international fame, he instead became one of the first prominent artists to die of AIDS. Still unforgettable 20 years later, Klaus Nomi's story is finally told onscreen through rare club footage and interviews with scene-makers of the time, giving this "absolute outsider" his due as a great artist.
Billy Jam of Hip Hop Slam Friday, February 4th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm

Get the details this Friday.
Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals Thursday, February 3rd, 2005, 11pm - 2am
on
Pat Duncan's show
Gruff Rhys' solo record will be released on Rough Trade this March entirely in his native Welsh. The
record is a kind of epic, modern, folk record instrumented almost entirely by
Gruff alone. There's also a Super Furries singles collection to be released
on Beggar's in January so listen in for Gruff to perhaps perform some
acoustic versions of those Super Furry Animals fan favorites too!
Joseph Lanza Wednesday, February 2nd, 2005, Noon - 3pm
on
Irwin's show
You may think that Pat Boone, Doris Day, and Tommy Page are the apex of
bland music, but Joseph Lanza thinks they're fascinating enough to have
written a book about them. It's called "Vanilla Pop". Lanza, who also wrote
"Elevator Music", will guest on Irwin's program Feb. 2 at 1:00 pm to discuss
and spin his favorite vanilla sounds and stringbeat. Find out how "something
so simple can be so profound." Learn about "the history of sad songs done in
a happy way." Viva Bobby Vee!

performed with Femi Kuti and King Sunny Ade. The band plays a set live in
the studio to celebrate the release of its debut CD "Introducing Akoya
Afrobeat Ensemble."
Human Television Saturday, January 29th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm

This quartet from Florida shows off their quirky, minimal indie-pop during this live set on the Cherry Blossom Clinic. Their music calls to mind the Wedding Present, Unrest, and Felt (and even New Order). You can see them live at Pianos on Thursday, Jan 27, and pick up their debut EP.
Filastine Friday, January 28th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm
on
Nickel and Dime Radio with $mall ¢hange
Nickel and Dime Radio welcomes Filastine to phreak the airwaves for yas.Funky laptop madness that spans the gamut from ass shaking to mind melting, with occasional live drumming. Has a 7" on Post World Industries and has been know to collaborate with folks like DJ Rupture, etc. One to watch, and now, one to hear...
So begins their bio intro on their website. And you couldn't dream up a better description if you tortured yourself for weeks. That one line says it all. Fabio, as a DJ of moderate to questionable standing
here at WFMU, is proud to say that they will be his guests in the studio, to perform and entertain YOU, dear listener. He hopes you will tune in for this fantastic performance.
The Last Town Chorus Wednesday, January 26th, 2005, Noon - 3pm
on
Irwin's show
The Last Town Chorus is the only choir consisting of one voice -- and it belongs to Brooklyn's Megan Hickey. Megan brings her languid crooning and idiosyncratic lapsteel guitar to the WFMU airwaves on Irwin's Gender Bias segment, Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 2:00 pm. Hickey once said, "I have no training. I am violent with the lapsteel at times." Despite this admission, her music is spatial, unhurried, and tinged with sorrow. In addition to performing live, Megan will round out the hour by spinning some of her favorite female vocalists.

and his sixth and latest album, "Same Mother".
Jose Conde Saturday, January 22nd, 2005, 8pm - 11pm
on
Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg
Conde is the leader of the Cuba-centric band Ola Fresca. He drops by to introduce the band's debut CD, "Ay! Que Rico" on PiPiKi Records. The new CD features mostly original compositions by Jose using traditional Cuban rhythms. Jose tells us how he evolved from his days as a young rocker in Miami to rediscovering and reinterpreting
his roots in music. And he'll try to work us into a tizzy about Ola
Fresca's next gig, January 28 at SOBs.

murdering DJ's (musically speaking) for years. His record collection and music knowledge will make ANY of these so-called crate diggers cry for their mommies! Guest DJ Gregoire de Villanova Saturday, January 15th, 2005, 8pm - 11pm
on

Greg is a Paris-based DJ and proprietor of the online vinyl depot diasporarecords.com. He recently produced a retrospective CD of 60s and 70s tracks by the idiosyncratic French Caribbean percussionist (and visual artist) Henri Guedon for Comet
Records. The CD highlights the influence of the New York Latin scene on Guedon's early recordings. Greg will spin that CD, other examples of
non-indigenous Latin music from the 60s and 70s, and even some straight-up
Francophone African music from that era.

33hz Friday, January 14th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm
on
Nickel and Dime Radio with $mall ¢hange
33hz are on some vintage white boy funk/pop tip -- not Small Change's usual steeze mind you, but they pull it off really really well. From Zapp to Loose Ends to Eddie Kendricks to George Michael (think 'Everything She Wants' as opposed to 'Wham Rap'), these folks whip it all together into their very catchy original sound,
complete with multiple keyboards and a talkbox. No irony here folks, they mean it. Live set, DJ set, and interview. They also play Joe's Pub
on January 19th with Hollatronix.

R.A. The Rugged Man Wednesday, January 12th, 2005, 2am - 6am
on
Coffee Break For Heroes & Villains with Noah
Banned from perfoming live in most of the United States from 1995 to 1998, banned from recording studios and damn near every rap label that ever existed, R.A. the Rugged Man is finally back for revenge. While most rappers live in a world of fantasy, R.A. is one of the few MC's that can guarantee his rhymes are real life, as sick as they might sound. When asked about R.A., Biggie Smalls was once said: "I thought I was the illest." Tune in as the biggest threat to the music industry swings by to play tracks
off his latest release on Nature Sounds, talk shop, and go toe to toe with Noah in the ring!
Mike Fornatale Tuesday, January 11th, 2005, Noon - 3pm
on

Ever dream of playing in your favorite band? How about 3 or 4 of your favorite bands? Well, Mike Fornatale has done that and then some. This talented Garden Stater has played with the Monks, Richard & the Young Lions, Moby Grape, Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders and others as well as playing with some fine local combos. He will be part of an all-star band for a Greg Shaw tribute Jan. 29 at Magnetic Field in Brooklyn, an event that will also feature the DJ talents of WFMU's Evan "Funk" Davies!
The Silent League Monday, January 10th, 2005, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irene Trudel's show
This Brooklyn-based orchestral pop band originated as the solo identity of former Mercury Rev singer & keyboardist Justin Russo in the late nineties. Russo secretly stole each available moment in his former band's busy tour schedule to write and record his own fragile and epic LP, "The Orchestra, Sadly, Has Refused". Justin is joined by Sam Fogarino (of Interpol) and Sean 'Grasshopper' Mackowiack (of Mercury Rev). Blending glockenspiels and
trumpets, howling guitar drones and gentle piano, the live incarnation, a dense and boisterous chamber pop ensemble, is quickly becoming NYC's most whispered about 'conversion experience'. The band will perform at 4 PM.
Drop the Lime Thursday, January 6th, 2005, 6pm - 7pm
on
Advanced D & D with Donna Summer
NYC's own Drop The Lime is like a horrible Godzilla, eating lazerbeams, and breakcore beats completely re-invented and totally slammin'. That would be enough, normally, but Drop The Lime sings like a trashy little bird in leather pants. He has turned the underground on it's ear, and is in the process of making a BIG name for himself
internationally. He'll be doing a live set, and hangin out on Advanced D&D. Don't miss it!
Gutbucket Monday, January 3rd, 2005, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irene Trudel's show
What better way is there to kick off the new year than with musicians who are clearly out of their minds? Gutbucket sends you on a roller-coaster of of punk jazz-rock fusion, never losing their groove on the ride. It's been several years since Gutbucket has played on Irene's program and in that time they've toured Europe countless times, released a second album, and have an upcoming gig at Joe's Pub. Plus, Ken, Paul, Ty and Eric will also be bringing their favorite CDs to air in between bouts of musical lunacy.

Bias). The band is fronted by lunar-fetching vocalist Danielle
Kimak-Stauss, and guitarist Steven Masucci, with his 1967 Mosrite, a bank
of effects pedals and his Omnichord. Their shimmering new album is called
"High Noon".
Shakeyface Wednesday, December 29th, 2004, 2am - 6am
on
Coffee Break For Heroes & Villains with Noah
Hailed as "abstract hip-hop's next big thing" (Epitonic), Brooklyn-based producer Shakeyface is a talented creative force bubbling just under the surface. Allmusic.com describes his songs as "adventurous soundscapes" with "thick, dirty beats". An EP entitled "Puddle Jumping During A Monsoon" on Belgium's
Quatermass label and several appearances on compilations can all be found in his growing discography. Shakeyface also DJ's on the regular, serving up a special Shakey blend of crunked-up hip-hop, deep funk, leftfield electronics and Shakeyface originals. Christian Marclay broadcast from the Tate Modern Saturday, December 25th, 2004, 8pm - 11pm
on
Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg
Transpacific Sound Paradise veers wrecklessly off the typical course this week to take part in WFMU's ersatz Tate Modern / Christian Marclay and friends "Sounds of Christmas" festival. Oh yes, there will be a bit of multi-kulti Christmas music in the first part of the show. But at 10pm, we'll hear the Tate festival ringleader, audio/visual artist Christian Marclay taking on his own Christmas LP collection as recorded at the Tate Modern in London on December 10th. Marclay is an audio art visionary; he was a turntable artist long before anyone knew there was such a thing.
