World of Echo with Dave Mandl
WFMU will present a live simulcast of Looking Forward, an enormous video installation by Michael Counts at the Clocktower building in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The installation, which will be running for a month (from April 5 through May 5) will consist of projections onto the faces of the Clocktower's four fourteen-foot-high clocks. On May 3, the projections will SPEAK for one hour in the FMU simulcast. The broadcast will also feature an original score by composer Joseph Diebes.
If you're within viewing distance of the Clocktower (at 1 Main St. in Brooklyn), you can watch the projections while listening to the audio over WFMU. The Clocktower can be seen from most of downtown Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, and also from the walkways of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

Kevin Smith, a.k.a. Ares of Hercules, died of complications from injuries related to a movie set accident in February. The New Zealand hunk of Maori descent enjoyed relatively no level of success prior to his acting career. Regardless, he released over a half dozen records of lo-fi pop and folk music in the first half of the '80s which are comparable to the professional amatuer releases on exclusive underground labels such as Flying Nun and Rough Trade. Why was his music career hushed over the years, and why shortly after his death followed the announcement of plans for an ambitious re-issue effort to make available these long out of print recordings by Smith's bands Say Yes To Apes, Hyphen-Smyth and the Legacy of Ears?
