Burt was an exhausting experience. His energy level and ceaseless intensity consistently left me gasping for breath - being in Burt's presence was the closest I ever came to taking an aerobics class (sans spandex and chafing). While collaborating with Burt on several WFMU-related projects, I came to appreciate his computer wizardry, maniacal sense of perfection, and design savvy. But there was always time for goofing off - crude jokes, political rants, and dueling James Mason impersonations were among the many other activities we engaged in. Like myself, Burt was certainly among the most distinguished procrastinators I have ever encountered. He seemed to sense that work could always wait until tomorrow and that it was most important to live each moment on your own terms. As his sudden and tragic passing reveals, those moments are usually in short supply. I'm glad Burt was able to make the most of the too few he was given. - Rex Doane, Host, Fool's Paradise; Former Editor, LCD |
