January 9, 2021:
Celebrating globalFEST and Golden Fest feat. Mames Babegenush's '20 Golden Fest set
Our two favorite winter musical events can't happen in person this year, though both will have online festivals: The world music showcase extravaganza globalFEST (online 8 pm nightly this coming Mon-Thurs Jan 11-14 in a collaboration with NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts) and the Balkan / East European inspired bacchanal Golden Fest (online this coming Fri-Sat Jan 15-16, 6 pm to 1 am nightly). (Check out BRIC TV's video doc of Golden Fest 2020 above!)
On tonight's show we celebrate both, with one track by each of this year's globalFEST online showcasers and a special broadcast of a set by the band that came all the way from Denmark to play Golden Fest last year, klezmer-plus band Mames Babegenush.
Watch globalFEST this Mon-Thurs at 8 pm at https://www.globalfest.org/ or
https://www.youtube.com/user/nprmusic/.
Watch the Golden Fest this Fri-Sat 6 pm to 1 am at https://www.goldenfest.org/.

WFMU and WFMU's Transpacific Sound Paradise denounce explicit and implicit racism; condemn the culture of white supremacy, which enables the brutalization of black people and other communities of color, and support Black Lives Matter and the movement it stands for.
Here's a
