@dean - after I wrote that piece on Buddy, who played on tons of incredible records (cut in NYC), it came to my attention that it was more likely Gary Chester (according to various credible sources) on “Sugar, Sugar.”

Unfortunately, the NYC AFM contracts are scarce, at best, unlike the ones from LA. And memories of some players, understandably, get fuzzy with age. Having said that, it’s always possible that Buddy might have played percussion or an overdub here. Interestingly, Hal Blaine played live percussion on some Beach Boys tracks that Dennis drummed on. “Hawaii” and “Warmth Of The Sun” come to mind. I think “I Get Around” is another and maybe “Dance, Dance Dance”?

With the rise of MeToo and all the feminist activism, etc. HOW is The Bachelor still a thing? (apologies to John Oliver). I don't get it. And Michael, "Don't Pull Your Love" is a great karaoke choice...one of those great, overwrought '70s singles. Also hadn't heard that Sylvain track in ages, forgot he did it...."Teenage News" is great too. The Dolls played some free show downtown when they reunited in '05 or so, now kicking myself that I missed it. Also played that Little Steven Garage-Rock fest, maybe around the same time.

I’m not sure Burkhalter ever really addressed Hogan directly. Burkhalter showed up usually to climb inside Col Klink’s jockstrap.

Yes, gf2002. When I was in boarding school we would watch repeats of Hogan's Heroes just before evening study hall, so I (sadly) saw every episode multiple times. In college I was in a play portraying an elder German aristocrat -- I basically did a Burkhalter impression for my accent! I was dissed by the local paper review btw....

@Ross T Yes indeed! It was my stay home sick from school afternoon TV after Bob Barker. And in college my roommate would say "Hogans!" when it was on and we'd watch. It's still on MeTV every weeknight from 10-11

Leon also played a spy on a Monkees episode where he was trying to get a pair of ballet shoes from a girl Peter was dating. The accent made Leon's lines that much more funny.
