	♥ 5:31pm StringOFperils: They're actually large wooden factory floor warehouse buildings that have architecturally interesting molded cast-iron exteriors to the streets, sort of 19th century echoes of 17th century old Amsterdam (NY being New Amsterdam originally). The interior 'loft' floors are more akin to what you might see in a wool mill in Yorkshire. Sprawling interior spaces with very high ceilings, and wooden or cast metal support posts at regular intervals throughout. They were amazingly cheap when lower Manhattan was no-man's land. But not now.

	♥ 5:44pm StringOFperils: That's what everyone thinks, that loft-living sounds perfect, so once the creative hub takes life everyone congregates there, fixing up the spaces and making them really great, at which point the owners up the rents on the occupants who made it great. They have to move out, the buildings get converted to luxury condos, and voila, it's all Starbucks and Bergdorf-Goodman, and galleries and museums that arent' too keen on bohemian types hanging about the neighbourhood.

	♥ 5:31pm StringOFperils: They're actually large wooden factory floor warehouse buildings that have architecturally interesting molded cast-iron exteriors to the streets, sort of 19th century echoes of 17th century old Amsterdam (NY being New Amsterdam originally). The interior 'loft' floors are more akin to what you might see in a wool mill in Yorkshire. Sprawling interior spaces with very high ceilings, and wooden or cast metal support posts at regular intervals throughout. They were amazingly cheap when lower Manhattan was no-man's land. But not now.

They have to move out, the buildings get converted to luxury condos, and voila, it's all Starbucks and Bergdorf-Goodman, and galleries and museums that arent' too keen on bohemian types hanging about the neighbourhood.
