It all gets a little confusing because there certainly are many Romani people in Romania (wiki says currently 621,000 Roma people in Romania out of about 10 million Roma people in Europe all told). The Roma language is also called Romani or Rromanes. As Yeti Bob says, a lot of Roma people reject the term Gypsy, seeing it as a pejorative exonym (look up that last word if need be...) But it varies. There's a Roma organization out in California, Voice of Roma, that is hard line against the "G" word. Incidentally, they've helped bring a few interesting Roma bands to tour the US, most recently Džambo Aguševi Orkestar, a great brass band from Macedonia. See: voiceofroma.com .
