Nice snow pic! Hi Therese and party! Listening while doing stuff and things...
  6:01pm SeanG:

hi therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm luka:

hi Therese ^_^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm joe mulligan:

you could call the snow "Hunter boot high?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Therese:

Hi folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm luka:

we’re putting all of the houseplants into an app so we don’t kill them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Therese:

Tretorn boot high, @Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Scott67:

G'day Therese & Tangentials!
✌😎🌏
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm joe mulligan:

haha even better Therese! good start to the evening
  6:04pm SeanG:

i work at whole foods in cambridge, MA and sometimes Naomi from Galaxie 500 stops in nice lady
also juliana hatfield stops in too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Ciggy:

2 1/2 hours of shoveling & 3 advils later after listening to the snow falling.
Avatar 6:04pm JB from NP:

NICE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm luka:

@SeanG tell her 1) the olivia newton john album was sick 2) the I Don’t Cares record she did with Westerberg needs a vinyl release.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm HyperDose:

Therese bringin' the heat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Therese:

@Luka & @SeanG- agreed on Juliana Hatfield's ONJ record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm luka:

@HyperDose bringing the Deftones convo here. everything they’ve done with Sergio on base has been really good!!
  6:07pm SeanG:

you got it Luka!! yeah that westerberg/hatfield record is awesome and the ONJ record too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm HyperDose:

Totally agree. An asset to the band and one of the few bassists who could attempt to fill Chi's shoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Mmmm ... if only that snow were guacamole!
  6:18pm Jett:

Hello @Therese I hope you are well. Trying to.relax and enjoy your show this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm adamdoesit:

Hi Therese and parenthesists. We're digging the beats in Brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Mr. Pumpy:

hi therese. loving this grace jones cover! hope all is well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm steveo:

This set feels cathartic. Hi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Matt Fiveash:

I like Grace's version of this song way better than Tom Petty's. She's an underrated song interpreter. Also Hi Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Therese:

Hi Matt! FYI, I bought this 45 from your better half at a Record Fair...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Therese:

You know what? I really don't like the term "better half," now that I think about it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm HyperDose:

My better half is the other half of the quesadilla 😍
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Mr. Pumpy:

therese...i know what you mean about that term. and i've had a similar reaction after using it.
  6:32pm Jett:

Especially when @Therese is not just the better half, she's both halves. That guy is a mere scintilla!
  6:33pm Jett:

I'm a bit bored but at least I can enjoy your show. That helps a lot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug in JC:

I don’t get invited to super bowl parties anymore. BUT the last time I went to one they had a deep fryer and we fried everything that was available in the kitchen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Ciggy:

@Therese~ you're just like my sister. She grew up & married into a family of sports enthusiasts. She has other things to do with her time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug in JC:

I should clarify: no current friends of mine have super bowl parties
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Therese:

@Doug- I can get behind a deep fryer party.
Avatar 6:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

! GutenNoches !
- my sweet nuthins.
Avatar 6:40pm βrian:

I've never watched a super bowl, mainly because I only knew about it the day afterward.
Avatar 6:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I've never watched a super bowl mainly because I HATE SPORTS.
Avatar 6:42pm βrian:

"I don't hate sports, I just like it better when they're not around."
Avatar 6:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Which is never.
Avatar 6:43pm βrian:

Say, it appears some Calvados has found its way into my teacup.
  6:47pm SeanG:

SPORTS is a great album by Huey Lewis and the News
Avatar 6:47pm βrian:

When I got to university, I was miffed at the notion that a paying student would have to purchase tickets. So I never made it into that cavernous stadium.
  6:47pm Will:

Another show with a reliably good playlist, sez me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Mr. Pumpy:

As long as we're sharing... I like a lot of different sports, but don't care for most that go along with them. Not much for the fandom, celebrity, marketing, worship, and such. However, I have no problem with other people getting down with them...just not my thing. I do really get into some of the strategy, prowess, and fundamentals of some sports, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Mr. Pumpy:

Organized Sports is a great VOID song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Ciggy:

On 3rd & 8, Brady is Sacked!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Mr. Pumpy:

The Darrows, what a great sound! Thanks, Therese.
Avatar 6:52pm βrian:

Once (if) this pandemic thing is over, I'd like to see more pubs that have no TVs.
Avatar 6:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

On the chatboards - someone suggested to me that pub show sports because it makes sense w/ the sound down... What about BugsBunny I said? They said Sound is a big part of Bugs. OK - but it would still work...
Avatar 6:54pm βrian:

Wife peering over my shoulder: "Damn, that boot looks so ... authoritative."
Avatar 6:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A Wellington on a human face forever...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Mr. Pumpy:

I've been in more than one pub showing cartoons or movies with the sound down. Not all too common, but it happens.
  6:57pm Dean:

1910 Fruitgum Co. reminds me of the LP cut-out bins in supermarkets of yore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug in JC:

A bar without any screens is a rare and precious find these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Doug in JC:

Golden Cicada was an exception... I assume Therese has been there. Terry would sometimes turn the music off and show off a slideshow of his recent vacation and narrate the whole thing for everyone
  7:01pm Jett:

@Therese Were you doing your calisthenics during the 1910 Fruitgum Company track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Therese:

Oh, the Golden Cicada! Terry would also force people into karaoke. He chose the song and you sang it.
Avatar 7:02pm Bergey:

<3 love me some GBV
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Doug in JC:

I got tired of drinking Budweiser so I asked Terry if he would consider carrying a craft beer or two. He said he once sold Heineken and nobody bought it so he was never selling anything different again. Possibly the only bar I've ever been to with a library
  7:04pm Jett:

Remember when the Talking Heads would do "1-2-3 Red Light" during their live shows?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm chresti:

I remember Simon Says, was not aware of who made it.
Avatar 7:05pm βrian:

Not sure if it's still there, but Jimmiie's in Hyde Park, IL, used to have a great reference section.
  7:05pm Jett:

The domestic beers that I like are Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, and Samuel Adams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Therese:

AND he thwarted St. Peter's Prep when they tried to take the bar via eminent domain in order to expand their football field! Golden Cicada forever...
  7:05pm Dean:

It's through the magic of IETF RFCs, and that is genuine magic!

https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc-index.html
Avatar 7:07pm βrian:

The domestic beers I like are made in Dane County, Wisconsin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Doug in JC:

I like Yuengling but of course I had to boycott them for their disgusting politics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm chresti:

I think Vesuvio's in SF had books, don't think it had a library.
  7:12pm Dean:

Not fair, chresti, given that Vesuvio's is across the street from City Lights.
  7:14pm Robby:

Therese, I knew I would like your show before I ever heard it when my brother told me about it and said “She’s one of us.” And you are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Scott67:

Love this!! Thanks for introducing me to her Therese! ✌😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm chresti:

My parents liked to go there when they first moved up to the Bay Area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Doug in JC:

Hey Scott!
  7:16pm SeanG:

my fave bar in the Bay Area when I was there circa 1994 was the Hotel Utah
Avatar 7:17pm βrian:

This cut was background music when I was working on publising a scholarly book on Victorian porn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Richy4619:

Bah. I live in SF and I am miserable. The culture is dead. No community anywhere.
  7:19pm Dean:

Hotel Utah is still there as far as I know. I'm across the Bay, but I don't get to SF all that much. Enjoyed Spec's, not far from Vesuvio's.

On the Hotel Utah website: "Employees must carve 'Slayer' into forearms before returning to work."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm chresti:

Dean, I think they had books there to keep a beatnik vibe going.
Oh no Richey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Scott67:

G'day Doug! 👍😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm chresti:

G'day Scott67!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Asheville Jon:

is it just me or is the streaming cutting out a lot (and now just gone)
Avatar 7:21pm βrian:

Pity the dyslexic employee who read that as "Layers."
  7:21pm Dean:

More like a Tatler or Spectator vibe, I imagine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Therese:

Anyone else having issues with the audio stream?
Avatar 7:22pm Jacques Trois:

God, it’s been just one beautiful song after another. It’s overwhelming 😉
  7:22pm Dean:

No issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm chresti:

Richey, you're in the outer Sunset? My son is on Divisadero x Hayes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Scott67:

G'day chresti! ✌😎🤘
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Pure as the driven snow for me.
  7:23pm Robby:

No issues with stream here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Doug in JC:

I'm using the phone app and it's been fine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm chresti:

Sounds good here.
  7:24pm Jett:

You sound fine over the radio at my house. @Therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Scott67:

Err I mean, 🖖😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Asheville Jon:

could be just me. wouldn't be the first time i had issues. i dunno. been cutting out a lot, then just went away. closed player, it came back again
Avatar 7:24pm βrian:

The stream keeps changing every time I step in it. Sounds fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Therese:

Thanks, folks! @Jon, I'm glad you're back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Scott67:

Therese, a couple of brief drops here in Australia. But compared to my recent luck with the streams it's perfect. 😁
  7:26pm Jett:

I'm used to The Stylistics version of "People Make The World Go Round." this version is okay though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Asheville Jon:

thanks Therese, been enjoying the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm steveo:

Her voice 🤩
Avatar 7:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yer good for that DJ T !
Seriously steveo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm DonJuanTijuana:

Tuned in just now, love ❤️ this !! Hi @Therese!
  7:28pm Jett:

I also remember a Milt Jackson version of that Thom Bell composition.
  7:29pm Dean:

I was working in a record store when her Just Family album appeared. Is that her on the cover? So beautiful. I really need to check out more of her work. Her name alone is poetry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm chresti:

Her voice is like another brass/woodwind instrument, pure notes.@Dee Dee
Avatar 7:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wonderful pretty Yoko.
  7:32pm Dean:

Earlier today my daughter was singing "like" Yoko Ono. I remarked as much. Blank stares all around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm PMD:

Don't worry! I"m ok.
  7:36pm Dean:

Reading James I. Wimsatt, Allegory and Mirror: Tradition and Structure in Middle English Literature.

Sorry you asked?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm chresti:

Doing fine, auntie Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Therese:

Good! See, was that so hard?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Scott67:

I'm doing..... something? Feels like life, but can't be sure.
Avatar 7:37pm Jacques Trois:

Finished reading “Unnecessary Woman” by Rabih Alameddine earlier today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Therese:

@Scott67- I read your comment in the voice of the Headcrushing Guy from the Kids in the Hall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Scott67:

I'm reading the ingredients on a Frozen Pizza box. Intriguing stuff! 😎🍕
  7:39pm Mungerphut:

I'm reading Icebound by Andrea Pitzer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Doobois:

Mrs. Doobois and I and our three furbabies Lucy, Jonesy and Carla are doing well. Thank you for asking. We all hope that you and yours are the same, Therese — and everyone else reading this!
  7:39pm Gerry from Miami:

Sheena's Jungle Room hasn't worked for me today, but the other three streams are fine. And a rousing agreement on the kudos for Ms. Dee Dee Bridgewater. She is top of the line. Not a big fan of Yoko, but that tune was mellow and non-irritating, unlike some of her other material.

Hi Therese! I’m doing laundry and cooking so I have been lurking for awhile. Now the stove is doing all the work so I have a moment to say, “Hi!” I’m reading “Sylvia Pankhurst: Natural Born Rebel,” by Rachel Holmes. It’s a very engaging bio.
Avatar 7:41pm Jacques Trois:

Agree with Gerry re. Dee Dee and Yoko
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Scott67:

Hahaha! Therese, will have to goggle that ref? Not familiar in Oz. 😎

Love Yoko. Always inventive, daring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Uncle Michael:

Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm HyperDose:

@Therese if you like sketch comedy I'd highly recommend Aunty Donna. They just got a netflix show, but have been on youtube for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Therese:

Uncle Michael! Wendy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Therese:

@hyperdose- I'm not familiar with Aunty Donna, will check it out.
  7:44pm Gerry from Miami:

Therese, the Kids in the Hall got me through the 90s. Hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Scott67:

Therese, love him! Shave his head & he's men, down to the glasses. Will have to binge some eps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm chresti:

I mostly read the New Yorker, otherwise read things online while listening to wfmu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Uncle Michael:

I was more of an Upright Citizen's Brigade guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Scott67:

HyperD, G'day! They're brilliant Aussie comedy, so glad they get a wider audience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Therese:

It's not a competition, @Uncle Michael! :) Plenty of room for both of them with space to spare for the Mighty Boosh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm luka:

ffffffff i was just thinking about “uptown” today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Scott67:

Me down to the glasses* & men I guess?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm luka:

i would have died hearing this in the flesh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Uncle Michael:

I come from Chicago where improv comedy IS a competition...literally.
Avatar 7:48pm Jacques Trois:

Mmm, a Prince nugget
  7:49pm wendy del formaggio:

I loooove Kids In The Hall. It was the right show for the right time in my life (my teenage years). And upon repeated viewings, it still is.
  7:50pm morphe':

Do not have a TV, but for historical reasons, wanted to mention that FMU used to host THE STUPIDBOWL - watching with the sound down and FMU UP...
Sort of like Ken with the TeleTubbies....

Yay Selecter !
Yay Kids in the Hall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Uncle Michael:

I completely forgot the Big Game is on.
  7:51pm wendy del formaggio:

I also love SCTV, since we’re on the “sketch comedy” subject. I can’t even think about Pirini Scleroso without laughing out-loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm luka:

KitH shaped my entire response to comedy, thank you aunt Barb for letting me watch it when i was too young.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Uncle Michael:

Cheech & Chong made me who I am.
  7:53pm Dean:

In high school I attended improvisational acting competitions at schools here and there in California. As a freshman I observed my junior and senior schoolmates performing masterfully. To this day their thespian skills amaze and inspire me. But the televised versions utterly distort and miss the point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Asheville Jon:

hey UM, how's it going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Matt Fiveash:

@Therese from an hour and 20 minutes ago: I'm not crazy about the term "better half" either, but she is in fact better than me, so at least it's accurate in that sense... sorry to reply so late but I was eating dinner with "the ol' ball and chain"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm HyperDose:

We wouldn't have you any other way UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Therese:

SCTV! Hoboken Jack lent me some SCTV DVDs many years ago. I'm not sure if I ever gave them back...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Uncle Michael:

It's a good day, Jon. How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Therese:

@Fiveash- tell your old lady I said hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Asheville Jon:

oh, you know, living the dream and all that. doin ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Uncle Michael:

All *joking* aside. Firesign Theatre and SCTV are my sketch comedy touchstones.

  7:55pm wendy del formaggio:

@RRabbit: Same with me—Monty Python knocking me out in Jr High. Right around then I also discovered “The Young Ones,” which hugely influenced my demented development.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Matt Fiveash:

@Therese- you got a "hi" back from the sofa over yonder...
Avatar 7:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@ my age - Young Ones was *much* later. Completely other era. & they were...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm DonJuanTijuana:

Thank you @Therese! Only here a brief time, but very enjoyable as all of your shows are! Check u out next week!
  7:56pm v-dawg:

Apparently SCTV cannot be fully released because of the pirated (sort of) background music. It is too bad, it would be nice to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the fun today, Therese. Have a good week!
  7:57pm Dean:

If Firesign Theatre is sketch comedy, then Rabelais was writing jokes for Carson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Doug in JC:

Thanks Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Uncle Michael:

The music wasn't pirated, it's just too expensive to license.
  7:57pm morphe':

Uncle Michael - I am older than you = Captain Kangaroo and the Bevely HillBillies... and Jack LaLane .... My mother had to mond children to keep our kitchen going and I remember resenting (age 9-10) that I grew up without Sesame Street, nor Big Wheels...
