i've been tempted to get a fancyass plucker from kalimba magic but i can't justify it. i have 2 kalimbas and now that i got the spring material from them both are sounding good.
i was using street cleaner bristles that a friend was collecting for me. he said there's one corner near where he lived that seemed to be the depository. they had decent tone but very little volume.

chresti @139 most kalimbas made in africa have little loops of sheet metal (not at all unlikely cut from food/beverage cans) wrapped around each tine so there's a buzzing/rattling sound with every pluck. a kalimba maker in tanzania might think your kalimba's just perfect!

and this week comes to an end. but of course from that end springs a beginning, a beginning, that hopefully, leads me to be able to speak over my bed loops next week. meanwhile i hope you all have a safe, healthy, and as happy as can be week. i suggest being proactive in trying to make that kind of week happen because you deserve as many of them as you can get. soon it will be light out again at 6pm (do i care if it’s dark at 6am? hell, no!; do i care if it’s dark after work? hell, yes!). soon despite the masks and the existential fear i can once again meet some of the people in our small pod outdoors and enjoy a beer in their presence, i can eat sushi outside again without having to wear a winter coat and a blanket (no inside, sorry doesn’t compute), i don’t have to think about a running nose (because that’s what the winter does to my sinuses) behind the mask, I can walk the 10 or so variations of paths that we discovered last year that always lead back to the same place; it really is the little things that make one happy (if that one is me). just remember to enjoy life because it offers the best sensations.
