Tennis-type day there, chresti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
I^kºE:

I couldn’t fully follow the vax convo on Ken’s comments but I’ve tried looking at Turbovax and it linked to maps on other sites... as far as I can tell, nothing is ever clearly labeled as a cancellation appt. or surplus vax appt. — are y’all saying that if an appt. appears I should grab it as long as it doesn’t specify over-50/underlying conditions?
Avatar 12:13pm
Mary Wing:

Well, if I had my druthers, yes, but you forget about the shipping constraints, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
chresti tennis booth:

Sem, very tennis-type day here.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Handy Haversack:

Ike: Do you qualify under any of the NYS/NYC guidelines? If so, then yes: grab any appt. you can. Keep trying multiple sites. Even if you get an appt., keep trying for a sooner/closer one if you have to take one that's pushed far out.

If you don't qualify under any condition, then you could I guess try going by a local site -- pharmacy or whatever -- toward the end of the day and see if they have any left.

Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Handy Haversack:

Sem, when we've all poked our eyes out, your wisdom will be made clear.

Ike, yeah, then your best bet for now is to hang around near vax sites and see if they have any left over.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Handy Haversack:

Ike, there are also vax sites that need volunteers, which would get you qualification -- as would volunteering with any nonprofit that would put you in a role that interacts with the public.
Avatar 🛎 12:25pm
βrian:

Was there a DJ criteria? Seems like a lot of FMU folks were vaxed. (Gotta keep those skeletons healthy, for sure.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Michael 98145:

robot waltz music, this
Avatar 12:25pm
ChukAmok:

@Ike one possible way to get vaccinated is to volunteer at a vax site. In my case they had extra doses at the end of the day and in order not to have them go to waste the hospital offered them to the volunteers. Not saying that could happen anywhere/anytime, or that you should volunteer with the expectation that you will get a dose, but it could be an avenue towards innoculation. Plus, volunteering is fun and feels good.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Handy Haversack:

Phillippe, I thought I'd solved all my formal-wear needs when I bought a kilt -- until I had to go to a wedding *in Scotland*, and the kilt would have put me over my luggage allowance!

@ChukAmok I love it here. We spent the years in between Crownsville and here living in western HoCo for the schools. I was absolutely miserable. @Sem they are here! First arrived two weeks ago or thereabouts. I was just gushing to Handy yesterday about a battle over a fish I watched between an osprey and a bald eagle. The osprey dropped the fish and before he could swing back and get it a huge-ass eagle swooped in and grabbed it right off the water. A chase ensued.

I'm looking forward to some NJ exploration this summer with Doug in JC as a guide. I found a Meadowlands blog with a pic from last year with *eleven bald eagles* sitting in a tree! Er, R-O-O-S-T-I-N-G.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm

Thanks, Phillippe! Have seen a version of that myself. But the jaw-dropping sight was a red-tailed hawk harassing a bald eagle too close to its nest at close quarters, with the eagle rolling over 180 degrees, talons up, in defense, repeatedly.
No blood spilled that I could witness.

Eagles seem to get harassed a lot. The osprey generally run them off. I've seen a small convocation of them in a little cove not far from here, so maybe they go for a "safety in numbers" thing when the bullies come to town.

Handy Haversack:

For reals, Mary.

Eagles will steal other birds' catches, as Phillippe can attest and eat fledglings, so I think most birds try to drive them off. Also, they are *not* particularly maneuverable birds (I did a whole report in grade school, and we are grading on a curve here, but still: majesty does not translate into maneuverability). So it's relatively less dangerous for smaller birds to attack their heads -- and nobody wants to lose an eye!

Hawk vs. eagle, though: That's a whole new level, Sem! Are you sure it wasn't Marvel filming a movie somehow?
