@Ashville Jon: I am not a Sting fan, but I saw him a few years ago at Jazz Fest, and he put on a really good show, played all the hits.

Andres:

Hey, paparay! Hey, all! I wasn’t happy about the end of The Police but eventually I came to accept that song as good jazzy fun!
  9:13pm
paparay:

A buddy of mine ironically named Sting Internatonal produced Sting & Shaggy's LP. Yes, sad to see The Police retire. They split when they were on top. Didn't see Sting solo. I've always Stewart Copeland's musicmanship. He's quite articulate and intelligent. Sting a bit of an ego-maniac. Andy Summers is another interesting chap. Saw his documentary. His photos are impressive.

PJ:

@paparay: I agree that the Police benefited from Sting's pop sensibilities while keeping his pretensions inclinations more in check. I have no idea what went down with the Police, but I imagine that, with some artists, once they've reached that level of success, it's hard to want to put up with bandmates saying, "Eh, that one's not so good, Sting. But just wait until you hear my song, "Mother", you're gonna love it!"
  9:23pm

I've listened to Robyn Hitchcock's song, "Listening to The Higsons" many times, but this is the first time I've actually heard The Higsons.

We went to pick him up one day and his buddy was building a (better) skateboard ramp (than mine in NJ) while talking about the Circle Jerks and The Damned. Nothing was ever the same. Black Flag and The Buzzcocks took the back seat for a few weeks.
  9:50pm

@paparay...me hears ya. There were some Jersey stations, but they had weak signals, and only did things at certain times. College stuff. Although I used to tape them a lot on cassette and listen back. I recall one show exposed me to both Siouxsie's Nicotine Stain and New Pleasure by Richard Hell. this was another defining moment in my musical education.

The best incentive for working at a college paper or radio station in the 80s was to snag the promo records that came in the mail before anyone else did!

Dear Prudence is one of my favorites being I am a Cure fanatic, and the Dear Prudence 7" feature Robert Smith as an actual band member. being he played and toured on Hyena. I have it. Probably not worth much, but to me, priceless! Huzzah!
  10:02pm
paparay:

@ Krill Sagan: Cocteau Twins went over my head in the early days. Didn't get sucked in till I heard Carolyn's Fingers from Blue Bell Knoll. I won the LP one night at a club and my life has never been the same. Went out and grabbed everything that said COCTEAU TWINS on it.
  10:03pm
