Going back to Pat Boone though, I did a whole half hour PB show for the April Fool's day takeover, but it didn't get used so I've decided to sprinkle some of the songs over the next few episodes

Avatar 2:16pm

lol!
  2:16pm
Jay Pemberton:

Actually the room it was recorded in was VERY dead. And small. (Yes, I've been there....I also own the Ampex valve tape machine this was mastered with, sounding quite better than it did in the previous owner's hands!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm

beer. Good idea. I'll get one for you too, Beany.
  2:18pm
Listener Robert:

Then, Mr Pemberton, what could possibly account for that sound? Was the tape machine used as a delay?
Avatar 2:20pm
Beany:

Cheers PK. I have a chocolate and vanilla stout in the fridge calling to me.
  2:20pm
Jay Pemberton:

Cranking shedloads of spring reverb onto the mix. Lots of people told me of going in there to record, hearing a playback of the raw tape, thinking it sounded OK, then getting the records and they'd be horrible, sounding little like they remembered!

Avatar 2:23pm
Beany:

I prefer free alcohol PK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I gave up alcohol two years ago for several reasons. Unfortunately there still isn't any good tasting alcohol free wine.
  2:24pm
Jay Pemberton:

Drink enough and Double Shot will sound brilliant! When I got the tape finished I told the band member I handed it over to that he (or whomever) needed to be as drunk as they were when the recordings were made, else they wouldn't sound right. He just laughed....
Avatar 2:24pm
worldsworstrecords:

Isn't alcohol-free wine just grape juice?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm

there has been some fermenting going on but it tastes like weak shite anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm

Wonderfully horrible.

That's it I'm OFF.... for another beer! Then I'm off into the loft to rummage in my crate of religious records with this show playing LOUD.

Thanks Beany... 'see' you soon!

I might do some stream squatting after Flans show today - which I'm looking forward to hearing after this!

I love the Co-Star Party records. Used to play them with friends years ago getting drunk and reading lines.
Avatar 3:08pm

They're great, aren't they? I have four or five, including Basil Rathbone and Cedric Hardwicke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm

I think Tommy Wiseau or Neil Breen should do Co-Star Party records.

That would be fun!

Well, we can pretend Mrs. Miller was on Co Star with her Open End Interviews. ;)

Listening as I get back to it. Lovely Library Sounds here D!
Avatar 3:11pm

I'm enjoying this... a chance to show off some of the Library records I've purchased over the last couple of years... all Georgy's fault, of course!

Thanks Otis!

It sounds really nice. Good choices.

I'm back in one piece. They all sound like sixties TV theme music. Which is a good thing of course.

Thank you, PK!
Avatar 3:20pm

Definitely. Paul Bonneau - playing now - provided a lot of music for The Prisoner

Loads of tracks from the Telecineradio series turn up in The Girl Who was Death episode
Avatar 3:23pm

Incidentally, the track on the flip side to the Les Reed Combo 45 I played earlier is the theme tune to the WWRRS!

I wonder how many of these LPs were thrown away by TV companies. The one's I have certainly were. Charity shop finds.

Loads, I'll bet, Beany

Hi shangri-lounge! Welcome to my little library hour!
Avatar 3:35pm

I've always found it odd that these companies - especially Chappell and deWolfe - were still producing 78rpm 10"s until the early 60s, and 10" LPs until the mid-60s. TV and Radio studios must have been pretty primative!

they sure do. You're doing a great job, Darryl.

We probably forget how cheap it was to produce vinyl records back then in UK pressing plants.

It was cheaper still on the Continent, Beany, until EMI put the kybosh on that
Avatar 3:42pm

Saga used to get their records pressed in France, until EMI bought the plant and refused to take any British business
