Santrofi at WOMEX: Ghanaian Highlife Re-imagined




Accra-based band Santrofi take a new look at classic highlife sounds of Ghana - with lots more in their vibrant mix as well. Tonight we feature a mini-session they recorded with Jon Kertzer, former African music host and continuing contributor to Seattle's KEXP for KEXP at the WOMEX World Music Expo in Tampere, Finland on October 24, 2019. We'll also hear a couple of tracks from their stellar debut album Alewa, released by Outhere records in 2020.

Big thanks to Sigtor Kjetså and Tore Steen from NRK Norway and Janko Sadnik from WDR Germany for producing / engineering Santrofi's session at the WOMEX EBU Radio Studio.

recalling a friend's ordeal some years ago -- iirc, her whole building had to be evacuated, in order to PREVENT the damned bugs from migrating -- ugh!!!
