Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from April 30, 2021 Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

I'm happy to report that my first home attempt of making an egg cream is a total success.
Avatar 7:43pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

mmm egg cream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
doctorjazz:

It's all in getting the exact proportions-I've been to many restaurants/ice cream parlors that can't get an egg cream right! It's joyous when you get a great one!

Read recently that U-Bet was closing their Long Island facility and possibly outsourcing production. Next trip to the grocery saw they had a display featuring various flavors and that they also had a sale on seltzer. I took it as a sign.

Sorry, @doctorj, I meant Goo, of course!

I've had a few at various NY & NJ diners. The one I made topped them all. Studied various articles and blogs. Correct proportions, a cold glass and drinking immediately I think made for success.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
WR:

So far, beside possibly the Lizzie Borden song, I have not heard or seen anything about any of these tunes in this episode. Oh, wait, Get Happy was a dance band favorite, I know this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm

Before the pandemic, I ate at the Second Avenue Deli, NYC. At the end of the meal they serve everyone a small shot glass of chocolate egg cream, which was terrific. I ordered a regular sized one, they didn't get it right on that one.

Jerome Kern collected books for about 15 years and then suddenly tired of this hobby. He sold his entire collection in 1929, and it was the most successful book sale in history. Some of the prices have not been matched since. He celebrated his success by putting all the money into the stock market. Oops...

New genre I am delighting in, compositions that reference type of music with little or no relationship to that type of music. Tuesday night hear a recording by Roy Eldridge with bossa nova in the title and now this tango tune.

I know @LG, there are rampant examples, and previously I found them egregious but the Eldridge recording and this tango tune have made me rethink cultural appropriation.

Yehudi Menuhin, star of one of my favorite Ron Mael lyrics: "It's a lot like playing the violin/You cannot start off and be Yehudi Menuhin"
