What's it called again? Artist - Song - Year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25am
Meghan:

HyperDose- It's the song Breakthrough. Definitely 70's. It's saying the Atomic Rooster version is 71. Not sure who the African artist is...as if I did I wouldn't be asking... hehe
Avatar 7:27am
HyperDose:

Other versions of Breakthrough are credited as covers of Atomic Rooster's version, hmmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am
Meghan:

I'm looking for the African version... who did the African version?

Earworms are the best, but can also turn into the bane of your existence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40am
Meghan:

so so true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am
David (in London):

I remember donkey's years ago, I woke up with an intense earworm (I won't say what it was in order not to pass in the infection, let's just say it was BAD with a capital B_A_D). It was with me for DAYS, until it reached the point where I had to hop in the bus, go into town, find an old copy of the album in a second-hand shop, buy it, take it home and listen to it. It finally did the trick. It was like dying for a pee, and then finally being able to have one. Ahhh, the relief.

For years afterwards, whenever people looked through my record collection they would be like, "Mmm, Can...Miles...Swans...THIS???!!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Haha David iL ! ...what about replacing it with another ? Or even that too much hubris of the conscious mind...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am
Meghan:

hahaha, sometimes it just makes you have to have a couple listens. I wonder why earworms happen? and why is the only cure is actually listening!
Avatar 7:47am
HyperDose:

Looove Chromatics. I want that Cherry EP sooo badly!
@David Now we can just open up any streaming service and instantly take the earworms out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49am
David (in London):

And now, of course, I have a very soft spot for that same song.
  7:50am
elwyn:

hey everyone.

Sydney is going back to masks because some guy shopping for BBQs has Covid and noone knows where he got it from. I'm still seeing a comedy show on Sunday.
  7:51am
elwyn:

I only watched The Man in the High Castle Season 1 so far. I have totally forgotten how the book ends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am
Meghan:

Wait you stopped wearing masks in Sydney?! Wow. I wonder when that will ever happen here....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am
Phillippe:

I did not realize Style Council put out enough music to rate a "Best Of" collection. Not criticizing the music (I love them), just the output
Avatar 7:57am
leshwatt:

Loved the Jam, wasn’t too hot on Style Council at first, but it has grown on me. Paul Weller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am
David (in London):

Hey Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
Phillippe:

Hey David! Fancy meeting you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
Meghan:

Phillippe- I was actually surprised when I went through how much I remembered. I think I just never associated it with them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

leshwatt - Todd-o-phonic did an interview with Weller recently - & I was surprised @ how straightforward he was - I was expecting some kinda late 70s PostPunk Mod haughtiness er somethin'... That helps me think his music is honest...
Avatar 8:04am
leshwatt:

Well off to work. Thanks Meghan and everybody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am

doctorjazz:

Hi Meghan and underwater folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Meghan:

Oh same Dave.... there is a part of the end of the school year that this album was hugely influential!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Meghan:

morning doctorjazz!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13am
David (in London):

Hey there doctorjazz.

Soul Mining is one of those albums that goes very deep in the people that lived through those times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah, TheThe trax so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am
doctorjazz:

Hi, David.
Know of The The, but haven't actually heard their music. Yet another album on my "Check Out" list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18am
Meghan:

Soul Mining is just so great that it straddles his first album Burning Blue Soul which was pretty experimental and pop. It's my ideal. They lyrics.... so powerful. Matt Johnson has an amazing way with words
  8:21am
BillD:

Good morning. Thank you for playing World Party . I always liked that song but never knew who did it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am
Meghan:

ahhhh yay! I love when that happens!
  8:23am
Listener Robert:

A little groggy this morning, because reasons, I first read the link as "Dishwater Theme Park".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

BurningBlueSoul as Album. & Matt Johnson did it @ like - 16 y.o. ?? In his room on a 4-track... pre-digital we talking... & it's sonically just so righteous. Long before like today or later when we can hear everything simply - but I'd get bits reaching me. A good time to be just old enuff to actually 1st take psychedelics. :) There's Legendary Pink Dots... DarkNight Julie territory maybe. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24am
Meghan:

Hmmmmmm hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am
David (in London):

Ah, the Dots. Now you're talking Rev!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am
Phillippe:

And where was this song at 4:00 AM when I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am
Meghan:

hiding like it has the couple nights I was awake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am
David (in London):

"The sexual nature of [Benet's] lyrics arise from his experiences playing Tom Jones covers in the Airport Hilton Ballroom, Benét writing that he "had to sexualize his songs a lot more to keep (the audience) interested, make them a little bit more risqué, and I think that carried over to my own songs."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Meghan:

haha, that is rather interesting! nice find!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am
Phillippe:

Interesting, David. Nice to hear about the kinds of things the "stars" did to further their career. I believe Cyndi Lauper started out singing in a Japanese piano bar. She didn't speak Japanese, but had someone write the lyrics out phonetically for her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am
