Dane Sturgeon  Queen Bee   Favoriting Wild 'n' Tender  LP  "California's Central Valley produced the D.I.Y.: Wild 'N' Tender's Righteous Folk-Rock (in a stone groove). Musically, it's like Del Shannon singing with Joe Meek's Blue Men on the moon. Judging from their Mannix villain '70's cowboy garb, I doubt this was intentional. This was recorded by Don Ralke, an early '60's pop producer." - Jello

Don Bradshaw-Leather  Distance Between Us (Part 1)   Favoriting Distance Between Us  LP  Organ: "A grim, sinister, solo organ record was made by Don Bradshaw-Leather, Distance Between Us. On the cover he looks like he's covered his face, hair, everything, with blackish-gray makeup." - Jello

Lumbee  Streets of Gold   Favoriting Overdose Album and Game  LP  Drug-Ploitation: "Not only were pseudo-psychedelic records produced, but this production possibly tops everything: Overdose: album and game (!), credited to Lumbee, on a Philadelphia label. It's a hip monopoly game for drug dealers, and places you can land include Sunset Strip, a crash pad, and overdose place, and Saigon. The cards you might be dealt (all of which show a skull with crossed hypodermic needles Jolly Roger-style) include "You ate the evidence," "Get out of jail free," "Pay off fuzz $200," "Overdose: go to crash pad, miss one turn," "Advance to Indian reservation - get wrecked on peyote," and my favorite: "Your friend dies froms overdose - you inherit his dope and collect $100." The music is more Sergio Mendez-like, but what a game!" - Jello (This is the track that was released as an 7" single in 1970) - Your DJ

Hi WR :) Thanks for stopping by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
WR:

Don Bradshaw-Leather cover pic so wild and the sound is basic proto-new age.
Avatar 2:40pm
BC Sterrett:

Ha! It's a 4 sided album of this stuff :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
WR:

I write proto- because the jazz and classical techniques still sound like their origins, not fully merged into something new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
WR:

i have this album from Ananda Shankar, will get others if reasonably priced.
Avatar 2:46pm
BC Sterrett:

That was just a 3rd movement, most of the album is just sinister scary organ music.

Hello BC and all, as I end what should be my last day working from home

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm

Waiting to find this Ananda & his Music LP in a second hand shop for a good price. Lucked out with the first one a few years back at a thrift.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Otis:

Until that day... if it ever arrives, super happy with digital. Love Shankar.
Avatar 2:56pm
BC Sterrett:

I know his records have now become crazy expensive!...like most all vinyl these days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Otis:

Totally. I really just know the first 3, the ones you have played. I am looking at Discogs now and so many recordings past 1977, bookmarked to follow up on later, surely must be some later gems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
Otis:

Ha, and now you play an album I do not know. My 'Musical Discover' continues. Thanks BC!

Feldpausch:

I’ve been just listening and not saying a word is that creepy?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
fred:

Is it really the last installment of the Jello Biafra series?
Avatar 3:04pm
BC Sterrett:

I'm stopping with this record since Jello said he had 5 and I think most of the others came out after the chapter was written.
Avatar 3:04pm
Don-O:

AH! Just in time for the wallowing!!
Avatar 3:04pm
BC Sterrett:

Yes. It will probably last one more show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
chresti:

ReCORD over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
fred:

One thing I like about it is the "Incredibly Strange Music" title, when the music feels right at home here. A WFMU playbook?
Avatar 3:10pm
BC Sterrett:

Hi Chresti and Don-O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Otis:

Great series BC. True dedication to books that bent and shaped me 'incredibly'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Otis:

This is how I actually sound when I sing Nature Boy in the shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Otis:

Even though I think I sound like Nat King
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
chresti:

Tony Randall is incredibly strange!
Avatar 3:16pm
BC Sterrett:

I feel like this book shaped much of record collecting at the time and help kickstart the lounge craze in the 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
chresti:

I agree, Otis and BC.
Avatar 3:23pm
BC Sterrett:

Ha ha, I wanna hear Otis sing the Tony Randall Nature Boy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Sem:

Hi, BCS! LMA-ers! Late but keen to hear what's left of strange.

I met Tony Randall once, he was walking into a radio station I was working at, there to talk-up a local theatre appearance.
I could not believe how small a man he was.
Avatar 3:25pm
BC Sterrett:

Yeah he was a tiny guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Otis:

Maybe for the next FMU Marathon BC. I'll try my best Randall.

Avatar 3:50pm
BC Sterrett:

Last song from this record I promise, I'm extending this final section of the chapter as far as I can to last one more show if possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm

Little touch of klezmer on the side. Lovin' this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
