YOUR DJ SPEAKS | ||||||
Bobby Brown | Tiny Wind Of Shanol | Enlightening Beam of Axonda | LP | "...In Southern California in the late '70s, Bobby Brown, a blonde guy who build all his own instruments, put out at least three albums which revived the '50's exotica feeling." - Jello | 0:00:30 (Pop-up)
Bobby Brown | Bray | Enlightening Beam of Axonda | "He claimed to have a 6-octave voice and recorded many of his pieces outdoors. He'd be playing one instrument with his hands while playing another with his feet. his best one is titled Enlightening Beam of Axonda." - Jello | 0:05:46 (Pop-up)
Evelyn Evans | The Holy City | Whistling Solos | Whistling: "Out of Kalamazoo, Michigan, comes a religious whistling record by Evelyn Evans. Over an organ accompaniment, she produces warbly, yodeling effects." - Jello | 0:09:31 (Pop-up)
Bob Garrett | News Report KOLD-TV Tucson in the late 1970's | Youtube Audio | "Tucson, Arizona produced Two Sides of Bob Garrett." - Jello | 0:14:52 (Pop-up)
Bob Garrett | Think I'll Become a Nark | Two Sides of Bob Garrett | "The cover shows him in a fringed prom suit and bow tie posed between hanging slabs of meat." - Jello | 0:15:29 (Pop-up)
Bob Garrett | You Can Take Your Love and Shove It up the North End of a Gila Monster Heading South | Two Sides of Bob Garrett | LP | "Songs include "Foldout Teenage Queen of Puberty," "Think I'll Become a Nark," "You Can Take Love and Shove It Up the North End of a Gila Monster Heading South," etc." - Jello | 0:16:18 (Pop-up)
Lumbee | The Whole World Is Sunny Upside Down | Overdose | LP | (Featured album cover on top of page 54) My favorite track on this record. - Your DJ | 0:16:46 (Pop-up)
Dane Sturgeon | Queen Bee | Wild 'n' Tender | LP | "California's Central Valley produced the D.I.Y.: Wild 'N' Tender's Righteous Folk-Rock (in a stone groove). Musically, it's like Del Shannon singing with Joe Meek's Blue Men on the moon. Judging from their Mannix villain '70's cowboy garb, I doubt this was intentional. This was recorded by Don Ralke, an early '60's pop producer." - Jello | 0:19:45 (Pop-up)
Don Bradshaw-Leather | Distance Between Us (Part 1) | Distance Between Us | LP | Organ: "A grim, sinister, solo organ record was made by Don Bradshaw-Leather, Distance Between Us. On the cover he looks like he's covered his face, hair, everything, with blackish-gray makeup." - Jello | 0:22:41 (Pop-up)
Lumbee | Streets of Gold | Overdose Album and Game | LP | Drug-Ploitation: "Not only were pseudo-psychedelic records produced, but this production possibly tops everything: Overdose: album and game (!), credited to Lumbee, on a Philadelphia label. It's a hip monopoly game for drug dealers, and places you can land include Sunset Strip, a crash pad, and overdose place, and Saigon. The cards you might be dealt (all of which show a skull with crossed hypodermic needles Jolly Roger-style) include "You ate the evidence," "Get out of jail free," "Pay off fuzz $200," "Overdose: go to crash pad, miss one turn," "Advance to Indian reservation - get wrecked on peyote," and my favorite: "Your friend dies froms overdose - you inherit his dope and collect $100." The music is more Sergio Mendez-like, but what a game!" - Jello (This is the track that was released as an 7" single in 1970) - Your DJ | 0:41:18 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Snow Flower | Ananda Shankar | LP | Sitar: "My sitar-rock collection includes five brilliant sitar-rock albums by Ananda Shankar." - Jello | 0:44:22 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Streets Of Calcutta | Ananda Shankar And His Music | MP3 | 0:47:18 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Cyrus | Ananda Shankar And His Music | MP3 | I just like this one... - Your DJ | 0:51:46 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Togetherness | Mising You | MP3 | 0:54:28 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Brindavan Revel | A Musical Discovery Of India | MP3 | 0:58:22 (Pop-up)
Ananda Shankar | Night in the Forest | Sa-Re-Ga Machan | LP | "The only other Ananda record I have. This is my favorite track by him." - Your DJ | 1:01:44 (Pop-up)
Balsara & His Singing Sitars | These Boots Are Made For Walkin' | Great International Hits | "My kitsch favorite is by Balsara & His Singing Sitars, produced by a mail order label in Perth, Australia. The highlight is a rockabilly version of "These Boots Are Made for Walking" played on sitar! "Tequila" and "Strangers in the Night" are given a sitar interpretation as well." - Jello | 1:05:32 (Pop-up)
Balsara & His Singing Sitars | Tequila | Great International Hits | LP | 1:08:27 (Pop-up)
Balsara & His Singing Sitars | Strangers in the Night | Great International Hits | LP | 1:11:18 (Pop-up)
Tony Randall | Nature Boy | Tony Randall | LP | "A Tony Randall LP from the '50s has a spaced version of "Nature Boy," complete with drug-flick sitar." - Jello | 1:13:56 (Pop-up)
George Romanos | Two Small Blue Horses | Two Small Blue Horses | MP3 | International, Greek-Psychedelic: "George Romanos released Two Small Blue Horses, a fusion of Greek folk-dance music and psychedelic rock ..." - Jello | 1:16:07 (Pop-up)
Annabouboula | Girl From Morocco | In The Baths Of Constantinople | LP | "Another Greek band, Anna Bouboula (actually written Annabouboula), released (on Shanachie) an album reminiscent of Danielle Dax: A blend of ethnic music, sultry female vocals, and modern electronic rock." - Jello | 1:21:56 (Pop-up)
Danielle Dax | Pariah | Jesus Egg That Wept | MP3 | 1:27:29 (Pop-up)
Varevar Antossian | Ganatch Bardez | Sings | LP | Middle-Eastern: "In America there's a lounge circuit for Middle-Eastern musicians, some of whom produce some great rock hybrids. Varevar Antossian, from Canada, does some good Middle-Eastern stringed instrumentals." - Jello (I only have this LP where he sings) - Your DJ | 1:31:00 (Pop-up)
Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | Holiday in Greece | Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | LP | "A straight guitar-bass-drums-piano quartet, Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants, do revved-up Bee Bumble & The Stingers-like versions of "Holiday in Greece," "Delilah," "Zorba the Greek," plus a medley of "Chopsticks" and "Sabre Dance." - Jello | 1:33:23 (Pop-up)
Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | Delilah | Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | LP | 1:35:39 (Pop-up)
Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | Zorba The Greek | Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | LP | 1:39:33 (Pop-up)
Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | Chopsticks, Moldouian Dance, Sabre Dance Medley | Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | LP | 1:41:35 (Pop-up)
Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | Aquarius | Wayne Bedrosian & The Immigrants | LP | "Out of nowhere they end up with their version of "Aquarius." Their generic pressing-plant sleeve shows a photo of a mailbox overlaid with green polka dots!" - Jello | 1:48:47 (Pop-up)
Gaimian & His Orientals | Come With Me To The Casbah | Come With Me To The Casbah | LP | "Gaimian & His Orientals' "Come With Me To the Casbah" is both great Middle-Eastern belly dance and a hot rock song as well; it's from an album on Atco..." - Jello | 1:51:59 (Pop-up)
Oudi Hrant | Andolu Oyunu | Turkish Delights | "Oudi Hrant's Turkish Delights, on the Prestige label, is a beautiful blend of Turkish music and jazz." - Jello | 1:54:28 (Pop-up)
Oudi Hrant | Cefti Telli | Turkish Delights | See you next time! | 1:58:04 (Pop-up) |

I met Tony Randall once, he was walking into a radio station I was working at, there to talk-up a local theatre appearance.
I could not believe how small a man he was.
