The movie Suddenly Last Summer scared (scarred) the shit out of me as a kid.
Psycho drama, Liz Taylor being awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
mariano:

Don't know that one, Handy. I saw Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth a few years back at Terminal 5, and there was something I didn't like about the venue, so much so that I didn't stay for the whole thing. OK, part of it was that they confiscated my weed at the door, but I had backup, so it wasn't all because of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
Handy Haversack:

*Nobody* likes Terminal 5. Almost managed to ruin seeing the Pogues.

This Motels song! You, Therese, are top dawg at WFMU when it comes to dredging up long-forgotten hits of my Boston-FM-rock-radio-listening tweendom. This one is branded on my brain, it got a lot of airplay. Welcome to Action Wednesdays!

Fun Fact! Suddenly Last Summer is one of DJ Scott Williams' karaoke jams.

@mariano- the Airstreams were relocated to Kate's Lazy Desert in Joshua Tree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm

Ah, didn't know that, Therese. Been a few years since I've been up that way. It's a great area. Phoenicia's a cool little town too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm

@handy I have to say, the LES is having a great revival as NYC reboots. Hanging on the little corner of Broome and Orchard, there is a ton of bars and restaurants for all tastes. All busy as hell. The recently NYT reviewed Ernestos was poppin on my way home. ALmost normal times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm

Now if the music venues would come back…

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
xtrakrispy:

@mariano that Phoenicia pharmacy is like stepping into another time dimension. I love Giants Ledge for camping…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
Handy Haversack:

I know the intersection well -- though my info is like ten years out of date, probably! I gamed for years in a gallery space on Broome by Ludlow. I think it became a vegan bakery?

Did Pianos survive the pandemic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
xtrakrispy:

The vegan bakery is now a hip wine bar “Somm TIme” Lolita became RPM which became Emma Peel Room. Identical vibe. Last time I was there I was drinking with the guys from Wharf Cat records.

Nice! They're in Greenpoint, I think?

Kate also ran a HS theater program at Lower Manhattan Arts Academy in the Seward Park Campus for *years*. So there was a solid stretch when we were on the LES a ton.

But my softball team is going to have a scrimmage in ERP in a couple of weeks! I will hit you through your profile ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm

Yeah! That DUMBO and Greenpoint closing is putting a cramp in my ferry life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm

@handy anytime. I hope to make it to the no bathroom record fest if you are there this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm
Stevel:

Lovely to have you on Wednesdays, Therese! Probably as lovely as having you on Sundays, but hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
mariano:

xtrakrispy: Phoenicia also has (had?) a really cool antique/second-hand store with an amazing record section. I found a bunch of dub 45s from the 70s, most of them DJ copies. Apparently the owner spent a bunch of time in Jamaica. And oh no, did you say the DUMBO ferry terminal is no more?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
xtrakrispy:

DUMBO and Greenpoint terminals are closed for a few weeks while they reconfigure. Hopefully open by the end of June??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Handy Haversack:

DUMBO and S. Williamsburg are under construction for now. Greenpoint is owned by the developer who has the condo tower (Minas Morgul) next to it. It's "being repaired," meaning the developer and ferry co. are staring each other down until the city steps in and pays for it.

Bob in DC and/or Virginia:

I spent the last few months driving back and forth between eastern Massachusetts and DC. Connecticut takes forever to get through but has some cool diners along the way (Rein's Deli in Vernon and Blue Colony in Newtown).

The best part was passing through NJ and being able to hear WFMU over actual airwaves.

From up here to JC, the GPS assigns me to take the Thruway to Hwy 17, but I enjoy taking 9W and the Palisades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Chop Scott:

The Merrit Parkway heading north ends into Rte 15 the New Berlin Turnpike south of Hartford. Land of bowling alleys--candlepin and as I recall duckpin. A great diner--and the original Lowes Drive-in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
