crazy finds, Gary!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm

I spent a week in the two cities, before traveling down to Corvallis to spend a week with my mom & stepdad, and I wasn't able to visit half the record stores -- and that's pretty much the only thing I spent any time doing, other than pho slurpin
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:03pm
WR:

Is Mississippi Records substantially distinctive over other stores in the area?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Gary:

It's a GREAT record store, but smaller even than Other Music was. But, yeah, superb collection of stuff there. I got that Turkish single there, for instance, and later, we'll hear a live performance from the store from a Nigerien artist released on limited cassette

Must say that the CD's you purchased out here in the great NW are wonderful! You escaped the coming heat wave. Temps are predicted to reach 106 one day. Few of us in the northwest have air conditioning, at least those of us in the older houses. Thinking of buying a kiddy pool and setting it up in the shade for Hal and I and, of course, little Tinker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Gary:

106? Dang, stay cool and hydrated, mom
Avatar 8:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Starting to feel fortunate up here in nowheresville NewHampshuh ! Had that week other month high 80s & 90 kinda thing - but quite good since...
NW isn't dry without Humidity either...
Avatar 8:49pm
TDK60:

In summer the NW gets dry usually, REvReb.
Avatar 8:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Really ? Might make extreme Highs easier anyhow. Til everyone runs out of water...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Gary:

I admit I was surprised to hear that many (most?) summers, the Pacific NW turns brown (tho I don't know about the evergreen trees?)
Avatar 8:54pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah - have a friend moved to Portland - now on fb she's always posting photos of colorful flowers & nice days. Not the stereotype of the gloomy NW ! @ all.
  9:01pm
Jill B:

Our drinking water comes from the Willamette River, which is fed by creeks, streams, and snow melt. Scant rain and warmer temps for the last 3 months means river level will steadily decrease. Many people stop watering their lawns during the summer, so all those luxurious gardens look quite different. The evergreen trees stay green, as do mature deciduous trees. Even though our surrounding hillsides are green seems to present the illusion that all is well, when in actuality the understory and ground cover becomes a tinder box. Check out the extent of the forest fires last year for an idea of how bad it could, and probably will get as the summer wears on. Hot, dry, windy summer days filled with smoke, and ash covering every outdoor surface. Not the NW summers of old.

Thx for informing. Lived in Santa Barbara between the ocean & desert hills many years - & it was perpetually on the edge - before even the current Climate situation became so obvious.

I love these long Arab pieces. Is there a name for the longer pieces? Just a long song?
Avatar 9:23pm

Sounding fine today Gary! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Gary:

You know, there IS a name for the Arabic (esp. Egyptian) art-style, but I gotta look it up. Let me see if I can find it ... hi, DL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
Gary:

It might be "musiqa al-turath"
Avatar 9:29pm
TDK60:

They're suite-length or concerto-length. Or extended ballads. Very groovy organ there, along with everything else, the singer..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Gary:

Or "musiqa al-tarab"
Avatar 9:30pm
TDK60:

Thanks, Gary. Whatever they are, I can get lost in them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm

Helmi Bakr composed this one

1975 is the original release, I just discovered
