More gorge-e-us sounds from Austin coming up. (Nashville won't mind, I don't rightly think.)

Not at all - we’re practically neighbors!

@bigplanetnoise
Kinda like Pittsburgh being one of NYC's outer-outer boroughs?

WR:

I'm taking a mini staycation today. Doing nothing except listening to WFMU and sorting recent music downloads and napping. A luxury. Still in my PJs. Guess will put on pants for supper.

Exactly. A 12hr-drive neighbor.

The chorus of the Cantrell song reminds me of some other song, *I think*, a Joy Division song. Aaaahh. Ear worm search.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Doug Schulkind:

If I remember correctly, Amy Allison played live on my show in 2004, one week prior to Tom Brosseau's live session. That was one helluva fortnight on the ol' GTDS.

By the way, I came back to the screen to remark that saying a rebroadcast of something from 2006 doesn't sound like so long ago, but you keep saying 15 years ago and sounds like a while ago.

Hey Doug. It seems to be Saturday afternoon here, but it sounds a little like Friday morning.

Glad to hear you on the radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm

According to Tom Brosseau, 2006 was "a lifetime ago." I explain in a minute.

@rw
There's a little bit of Friday morning all the time.

rw, Aitch says it is Sunday morning, who am I going to believe.

Will do Doug!! I keep calling Pittsburgh the Iron City for a couple of reasons.. one, my mentor and dear friend from art school titled a painting 'Iron City' that is in MoMA's Collection.. Jake grew up in a mining town in Pennsylvania.. second reason is that my long time musician friend Norm Nardini's older brother, Art Nardini, was the bass player in the Iron City Houserockers, a great band from Pittsburgh that should have made it nationally.. same with younger brother Norm's bands.. they had a good scene going on in the Iron City, sadly they just didn't break out of the midwest..

Set sounding fresh.
15 years?
Someone's been tearing pages out of my calendar
  6:05pm
bigplanetnoise:

Phil - wow. I haven’t thought about the Iron City Houserockers in decades! I remember seeing them on a bill in the early 80’s with NRBQ and John Sebastian, somewhere in Upstate. Poughkeepsie, maybe??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm

I'm with you Doug! After all, just an outer borough of NYC!

Bob - A friend of mine that had moved from Boston to NYC who didn't play, but loved music of all types, high end audio gear, and tons of vinyl, first played the Houserockers for me! I couldn't believe they went missing from my ears! That must have been a great show! Sounds like it could have been Poughkeepsie! They have had two music venues there for many years.. actually the closest places where bands that wouldn't book gigs in NYC during those years would play. The band became Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers as time went on.. Younger brother Norm played in a number of bands, and still plays out regularly..
