Hello Mr Bread, and fellow puzzle-masters. There was an entire Ogden Edsel album?! Don’t know much beyond “Dead Puppies” and their New Wave-y “Daddy’s Money.” What’s the rest of it like, kinda Barnes and Barnes-esque, I imagine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm
Franco Twinkie:

There is always tons of stuff to squander your money on at Poobah. Last week I got a copy of The Complacent Americans, a Civil Defense audio melodrama about getting incinerated by the H-bomb.

Mr Fab, it took me years to realize Dead Puppies was a a cover, after the only time i'd heard it was being performed at a battle of the bands... coincidentally, it's been on my mind -- i forget how or where, but yesterday, i think, it or something related to it came up... and now you just mentioned it. i'm going to need to exercise this thing... dead puppies really aren't much for (for most people)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm

hee hee, yes Arb today's soundtrack is going to provide some rather disturbing images to distract from the pleasure of your bath

I took my toddler son to a motel in Lake Elsinore that said the water was from a hot spring, when I drew the bath, the water was black and smelled like sulfur.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm

I believe PooBahs Records was ground zero for the formation of the LA Free Music Society, hey trivia fans.

I hear some phase shifting going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
ironybread:

I think you're right, Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
ironybread:

I've been working for some time to determine exactly why the Shining soundtrack LP went out of print so fast, and has never been reissued
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
chresti:

Fab, Tom Recchion worked there. I'd say Potts Plumbing and a studio they had in Old Town Pasadena was ground zeros, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Rich in Washington:

If I ever find a copy of The Shining out in the wild, I will likely scream out loud and will also have to buy a pair of pants, so hopefully it'll be at a Goodwill store.
Avatar 2:26pm
spodiodi:

had to stop mid-face-shave to see the anser. nice going, Rich! (i didn't stand a chance)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't believe some smartypants hipster labels hasn't reissued it yet. i suspect the reasons not are the same reasons it went out of print so fast. Either and ancient curse or publishing. Or both.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
ironybread:

This may have nothing to do with the issue, but long story short, I went looking for every available version of "Awakening of Jacob" that existed at the time the movie was made, and there is an "Awakening of Jacob" performed by the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra as conducted by Penderecki, it's included on this LP: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
ironybread:

...but that performance is NOT what's in the movie, or on the soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
ironybread:

Which is interesting, but it takes me no closer to figuring out if the old story about "licensing problems" is true, or why
Avatar 2:31pm
Arb:

I would like to stay in a blackwater baths hotel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yes Mr. Fab. Last night I was there with Rick Potts under the premise of doing some songs. We wound up talking about everything under the sun. No music was made. After, we went to El Super Burrito for shrimp enchiladas, and he told me a hilarious story about going to Disneyland with Monitor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

See what happens when I actually try and do some work and I'm away from the screen? I have to tell a story after the fact.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm

ARB, it was listed in a book on hot springs, that I had, not sure if it's still in it's derelict state that it was when we were there in 90-91. Seems like (if it still existed) it would be a "spa" or "resort" by now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
Franco Twinkie:

I was working at Universal Studios on a TV commercial, and one of my tasks was to put drapery in the windows of the Psycho house. It was a miserably hot day and I was up on the catwalks sweating like a pig and below me sitting in the dirt was an anvil case with a tape loop of the shower sequence music inside. Every time the tour tram would pass by the stabbing music would start. The place was filthy and full of racoon shit. That was so much fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
chresti:

Oh, that would be great, ARB! I'll be off this week though, I'll be at the studio off and on packing stuff up to move.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Franco Twinkie:

Alina, if you come over to the studio I'll buy you a pizza at Hail Mary.
