Futile expeditions to the edges of good taste, bad morals, and ugly intententions. Late night drives somewhere between Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and The White Castle of Fear.
Second Hand Pop, MIDI grunge soundalikes, and uncanny Japanese karaoke.

Hello all. I am cranking Mercyful Fate, as promised. Doesn't mean I'm not supporting Darren's show and all the hardcore accu playlist denizens! Party on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am Mr. Pumpy:

WFMU is THE place. The place to be. An oasis in an otherwise arid, desiccated, and culturally vapid wasteland where one can lose their breath by swaying for the slightest of moments. THE PLACE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am coelacanth∅:

i just caught a beetle. that makes me a b-word-owner. but i'm going to let it loose outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am Mr. Pumpy:

32nd favorite album? Huh?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am coelacanth∅:

Kurt had a wide knowledge and excellent taste in music.
i didn't know he rated them, i thought it was just a list.
now i am curious what the top 5 or 10 were...
do i care? no, i'm just curious.
Avatar 🎸 1:15am Cp304:

i hear a bit of neil diamond
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am coelacanth∅:

Pumpy you renting that cabin? (you're in a cabin right?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Mr. Pumpy:

i think being curious is caring. No shame in that! This track is bonkers! I guess this more of a single, being I cant imagine listening to a full album of this. I realize albums are an old-peron construct. Also, how can I call this bonkers and not set up for full album consumption when I have listened to entire albums by the likes of Incantation and such?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Mr. Pumpy:

Coel, no. It's my place...which makes it even more enjoyable because this is part of me I have been kept from for the better part of two years. I'm so pleased to be in my home away from home, and also...my future home. I'll make the move in the next 5 years or so. Goodbye Clifton, NJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am coelacanth∅:

it's sadly true -there probably are few "young" people who possess the attention span or appreciation to listen to the entire piece of art called an album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am coelacanth∅:

ya know, as i typed that question i thought i remembered you once mentioning your cabin up there.
i'm happy for you being there right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Mr. Pumpy:

coel, i's sad they have been conditioned as such as well, on top of it all. there is no money in it for the powers that be, for a person to listen to an entire album. Songs, Soundbytes, commercials, and then the next thing to get one's wallet out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Darren:

I've always liked shorter albums! All killer no filler!

I think people have been talking about the death of the album for as long as ppl have been making them. The people who love it will seek it out.
I love CLifton, great hot dogs!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Mr. Pumpy:

Thanks, Coel! I appreciate when people are pleased because of someone else's happiness. I am having a good 3-4 days, and then back down south. This Remo Fernandez track is cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am coelacanth∅:

i guess i'm glad i got shoved into this world when i did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am coelacanth∅:

Darren i will only agree to a short album if the alternative is filler!
in the case of lps, where there is an inherent time limitation, i've considered many longer albums "perfect albums" (as well as many shorter ones)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Mr. Pumpy:

Darren, I tend to agree about the album length thing. However, there are some lonnng albums that do hold up under scrutiny. Still, some short bangers really drive the point home. A few that come to mind, Slayer's Reign in Blood (of course), Descendents - ALL, and King Crimson's Red (just under 40 mins).
Avatar 1:29am HyperDose:

The death of the mini disc gutted me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am coelacanth∅:

heh, red can be considered "short", for a king crimson album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am Mr. Pumpy:

HyperDose...I'm sad you found a place to stay on the mini-disc island!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am Mr. Pumpy:

Coel, like many artists did, once the 78 mins of the CD was looked at as standard, they vacuum got filed! the issue became, is a band good enough to fil that much space? KC never went beyond the 60 minute mark, but the density of the material might seem like it was double that, to some. I remember when the Cure's Disintegration came out, it was a single vinyl LP, but the hype sticker pointed out that they fit 60 minutes of music on two sides of a record. Well, 59:59 to be accurate. I think the record sound great! Perhaps that is because it sounded great, if you get my meaning.
Avatar 1:40am HyperDose:

Not my fault they don't make pants with pockets for vinyl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Mr. Pumpy:

Crazy! It just seems funny to me that Iko comes on while we are talking King Crimson and the cure. I always felt these Iko recordings had a favor of both bands' early 80's output. Darren, are you spying on me?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Mr. Pumpy:

Hyper, ha! That would be something. I have a good friend that is still pissed about the mini-disc thing as well. He had so much set up on the discs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Mr. Pumpy:

Going For Coel!
Avatar 1:45am HyperDose:

It was just a revelation for me being able to skate and play drums without any skipping. Now I can put my entire library in my pocket. What will they think of next, pb&j flavored toothpaste?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am coelacanth∅:

Pumpy yeah disintegration didn't suffer for it's length. i suppose if your speakers were cranking it it the same room the record was spinning it might have; but i put it onto a tdk right away!
  1:58am Robm:

Hello fellow listeners
@Mr pumpy i agree with you a out WFMU being an respite in a cultural wasteland
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am Mr. Pumpy:

Robm - word!
  2:01am Robm:

@Mr pumpy :)
Avatar 2:23am HyperDose:

These cosmic sounds are quite pleasant
Avatar 2:27am Hubig Pie:

Jumpin' in and glomin' on the convo-
Phillips developed the cd and decided Beethoven's 9th would be the standard length. Vinal usually maxed out around 25 minutes
Avatar 2:30am Hubig Pie:

Vinyl. 25 minutes a side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am Paulo AD:

What is up my dudes
  2:41am nidrian:

This sounds like The Fall and Blur combined to me
  2:41am nidrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am Scott67:

Maaate!!! How ya feelin today Paulo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am Mr. Pumpy:

Vinyl can go up over the 30 minute a side mark. When you start crunching grooves, sound quality can suffer. However, as mentioned, The Cure's disintegration sounds pretty damn good at an hour running time on two sides.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Paulo AD:

Scotty, had about 2 hours of sleep and walked into a real shit show in work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Mr. Pumpy:

Side two of Todd Rundgren's Initiation is 35:22 long. That's 1975 minutes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am Paulo AD:

I'm awake at the moment but this jet leg will kick in sooN i reckon. Having the bed on the plane made a massive difference
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Scott67:

Sorry to hear that mate! Been wondering how things are back in AD. It was heavy on your shoulders during the flight man.
Avatar 2:50am Hubig Pie:

Well what do I know Mr Pumpy. Doesn't cramming' too many grooves result in poor sound quality?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Paulo AD:

Yeah I did not really want to come back to work really. It was especially nice spending time with the family
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am Scott67:

I hear ya about work mate! I dunno when, or if I will ever be ready to return to a conventional job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am Paulo AD:

But i shouldn't let things get to me so much. I also shouldnt be drunk and on chat rooms
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am Scott67:

Just glad you're okay Paulo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Scott67:

Thanks Darren, great stuff man!
