View John Allen's profile |
"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

ChukAmok, since our city instincts are still coming back online after the full-bore pandemic year, we forgot to check the planned subway work before going on what we thought would be a surgical strike to see Yo Kinky's first live set at 10:30. The L stopped running at 11, we had just missed the shuttle bus, and so we started trudging through the hot night soup (with added industrial effluviants, thanks, Bushwick). Ended up walking to the Metropolitan G station -- where we finally saw a cab and were all, screw it, it's the same price at this point, let's take it home.

Riding bikes through steamy Bushwick during the '03 blackout was sublime, for instance.
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
Handy Haversack:
K8 actually has a play series based on the blackouts of 1965, '77, and '03, with an added one about a future blackout. All very much about gentrification, race, economic violence.
Last night, all I could think was "if we'd paddled here, we would be making much better time!"

John-o-thon, the field qua field is unremarkable, grass and clover and little weedy flowers that the bees still seem to enjoy. Field’s current out-standing features include dog, ball, hot coffee, cool water, WFMU.org stream, and a creature more sunscreen and bugspray than man.
