"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

The trout are treated as humanely as humanly possible and all are released, if that's any consolation. It was much cooler in the mountains, especially knee-deep in a river. Back home in the Piedmont it's very hot and incredibly humid. What I wouldn't do for a breeze.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:42am
Handy Haversack:

Right, Yeti Bob? Like two puppies in a pillowcase!

ChukAmok, since our city instincts are still coming back online after the full-bore pandemic year, we forgot to check the planned subway work before going on what we thought would be a surgical strike to see Yo Kinky's first live set at 10:30. The L stopped running at 11, we had just missed the shuttle bus, and so we started trudging through the hot night soup (with added industrial effluviants, thanks, Bushwick). Ended up walking to the Metropolitan G station -- where we finally saw a cab and were all, screw it, it's the same price at this point, let's take it home.

Oh, man, it was so hot then! We ended up on the roof that first night eating free ice cream and drinking free beer from the bodega with our neighbors.

K8 actually has a play series based on the blackouts of 1965, '77, and '03, with an added one about a future blackout. All very much about gentrification, race, economic violence.

Last night, all I could think was "if we'd paddled here, we would be making much better time!"

@Passaic - It was a Strange Maine and my story is pretty similar. I stopped in the the store and asked the weird beard working if he had any tape recommendations. After explaining that I as looking for genuinely weird music, the SM dude said "here's some of my music". I told my friend about it later and he said "Oh yeah, Id M gets played on FMU all the time."

I set up a 6' trellis for the cukes but they have outgrown it already. This is a good year for cucumbers. And I'm finding some new uses for them - cucumber salsa, cucumber margaritas, etc.

Cucumber salsa sound refreshing. I bet the cucumber adds a nice crunch to the salsa texture.

Yeti, have you ever let cucumbers ripen ? They turn Yellow and the flesh becomes gelatinous. Taste very different.

My aunt forwarded me an email chain listing maybe fifty uses for cucumbers. Like cleaning silverware and such. I deleted it after I read it. I imagine there are a bunch of web sites listing neat ways to use cucumbers.

@Spence from Baltimore: There are tons of recipes online. Some use sour cream to make it creamy, I do not. I just chop up tomato, cucumber, onion/scallion, a little lemon or lime juice, cilantro and/or parsley, and a jalapeño or serrano pepper, salt and pepper, you're good to go
