Hey MHLee

Well, sometimes a show starts a bit quiet on the comment board, but mostly that doesn't reamain that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm

Seems like the Dutch had a good prog scene

Crazy this is 48 years old
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@MHLee Yes, I started to realise that more and more over the episodes of this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
MHLee:

@feldpausch the joke when i was in college was prog = dadrock
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@Feldpausch. yeah... one of the members of this band has already died and the singer Jerney Kaagman is in an advanced stage of Parkinson's ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Feldpausch:

Meanwhile it's super sophisticated in structure. The ol' pendulum swings back and forth... classical to garage, fancy to raw expressions
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, The Koert twins were ingenious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
MHLee:

In theory we just need a bunch of jazz and classical kids to get involved in rock bands.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Jan Turkenburg:

on the spot, MHLee!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I meant: right on! (google translate doesn't show the meaning I had in mind)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
MHLee:

I totally got what you meant though... I guess someone has got to be influence by the post-2012 Opeth... I find the early Opeth stuff unlistenable but the recent stuff sounds like an edgier moody blues
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I must confess I don't know Opeth, but I'll have a listen later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
MHLee:

If you do Sorceress and In Cauda Venenum are the ones I mean... also the guys behind it don't have dodgy politics which is sadly something that has to be considered with anything with a metal bent
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I see a funny Deep Purple cover art Parody in their discography Opeth and the Loyal Disharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the powers that be.

I actually just noticed that! I'm quiet a Deep Purple fan. Was just adding them to a playlist.

I hope you caught the Golden Earring in time :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

I just got on. Been at physical therapy appointment for my shoulder. I'll catch the archives!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Mirasound was a small label mainly known for amateur choirs and dito orchestra and kids records
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I hope your shoulder will be fine soon, Candy. Did you have an accident of some sort?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
MHLee:

Was this one on Mirasound?
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, so I reckon this can be considered self-released.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
MHLee:

Pretty good for no majar label involvement in engineering
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
MHLee:

what on earth is this ?!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Jan Turkenburg:

They had their own recording studios: "Willibrord studio's". I recorded there with the Geert Grote School kids (same school different kids as in In My Spaceship) for a CD to go with a school songbook.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hauser orkater was more a musical theatre group rather than a pop group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
MHLee:

honestly i'm kinda digging this part
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
MHLee:

Very interesting about the recording studio, Jan. I taught elementary students music for two years in college.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, I remember ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
MHLee:

I forget which things I say I do on here. But yes taught kids, ran a choir for disabled adults, and studied biology. That was college... I did a semester of radio then too.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
Candy-O'67:

Jan, I tore my rotator cuff almost two years ago just from overuse and then was carrying a heavy duffle bag through the airport on my way to CA and that's sent it over the edge! They take forever to heal! I started PT right before the pandemic and then quit for a while and then I had tennis elbow in the opposite elbow I started PT for last summer. That got better and I resumed PT on my shoulder. It's healing, but slowly.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Candy-O'67:

I'll be listening but not able to chat now. Gotta get ready to go have a late b-day lunch with a friend. She's treating me for my b-day last month! Have a great day/evening, y'all! See ya next week1 :)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Jan Turkenburg:

On of my former Academy teachers Frans Haverkort co-wrote that songbook with two collegues, as wel as a music educational methos. The Songbook "Eigenwijs" replaced the standard Elementary School Songook "Hoy, een lied" that had been out- dated.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@Candy: have fun and see you. Thanks for dropping by!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Several of Frans' former students contributed with their classes and choirs to that CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
MHLee:

Hmm I have a few Gruppo 1850 songs
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

The cover art for the book was partly inpsired by one of my own songs that was in it. Piratenlied (pirate song) s.s-bol.com...
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Jan Turkenburg:

This group 1850 track has been played a lot at the Night Owl Show, no surprise :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Piratenlied is one of the three songs I'm still getting a little royalties from :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
MHLee:

I like it. Also that's pretty interesting. Didn't release Dutch used Lied for song. I studied German for 4 years so sometime I catch bits of Dutch
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Jan Turkenburg:

MHLee what didn't you study? I wouldn't be surprised if one day you mention "oh, I'm also a paleontologist"
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Jan Turkenburg:

When I studied pedagogy, we had this philosophy professor who also had a degree in theology, several languages and history. You remind me of him :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Jan Turkenburg:

And at that time he was studying Dutch Literature himself.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Jan Turkenburg:

So he had us reading a lot of Dutch novels with a philosophic and or pedagogic theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Feldpausch:

That Group 1850 track was rad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
MHLee:

Highschool was my German. I also got enough college courses in highschool that I was one short of a history minor. Took a lot of literature classes in college, including Irish lit. The prof liked me a lot and funded me to study in a month long cultural study in Ireland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
MHLee:

I take that as a compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Feldpausch:

I had meetings during but I enjoyed the show Jan! Love hearing these long-form jams
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@MHLee, it was meant as such! :-)
