A new highest temperature for Canada was set at 49.6 °C (121.4 °F) recorded on June 29, 2021 at Lytton, BC. The next day a wildfire raged through Lytton, destroying most of the town.

	6:59am Gerry from Miami: @Brainiac. I hope you only want to emulate the music and not the man that was Mr. Barry White. Whenever he was in town(his wife, Glodean, was a San Pedro, CA, native) he would come into the record store I worked at in search of R&B 45s. We would provide him with a stool on which he perched his 300+ pound body as he shouted out titles and we staffers would scramble around in our stacks for these "gems." Imperious and arrogant to a fault, he would become irritable if we couldn't find a particular title. He always left with at least a few items, but never a word of thanks for our efforts. Happy to say, visits from other music celebs were far more pleasant and gratifying. The "Oogum Boogum" man, Brenton Wood, and super jazz flutist, James Newton (also both San Pedro natives) were perfect gentlemen. Never got a chance to meet D Boon and the Minutemen at the store, but I did meet them elsewhere. Fine folks indeed!

	♥ 7:31am Rosey is Listening on WFMU.org: Also very happy to be here this morning instead of in the hospital or worse. Last night was at least the second time in less than a week that I almost got killed or seriously hurt on my bicycle. I was going across a crosswalk and couldn't make eye contact with a motorist making a right on red because it was dark outside. It wasn't until she was slowly hitting me with her car that I could see she was looking to the left the entire time, even as I was getting hit. Her not jamming on the accelerator is how the thin the line is between me getting a small cut on my leg and me spending the night in the hospital. I have a traumatic brain injury history and struggle with fatigue issues still. I came very close to sustaining more permanent and cumulative brain damage. Cycling is such a huge part of who I am, but this is why I can only do so much riding somewhere like NYC. Very frustrating and depressing. Was also the second time in like two days that I slapped someone's car out of anger. Your decisions on the road, as minor as they may seem, can carry severe consequences for vulnerable road users. The roads down here in Austin are designed to kill pedestrians. The crossings are so dangerous. I had to escort an old woman in a power chair once. What does she do when I'm not there?

I had an experience in Upper Manhattan a few months ago, on the very small part of the ride when I was on a road instead of dedicated bike space, that is exactly how new cyclists wind up never getting back on the bike. Cycling through NYC can be one of the most magical experiences, passing through one neighborhood after the next.

A motorist blocked the sidewalk while trying to get back onto the road. I had to swerve onto the road, and like two seconds later, a pickup truck passed me in the same lane. If there are multiple lanes, and a car is in the left lane, the car in the right lane will still pass you anyway in the same lane you're in, every time, unless you take the whole lane.

Always seemed much easier than a car when it comes to operating manual transmission. You can get semiautomatic ones too, that just don't require clutch operation. I'd imagine electric technology for motorcycles is coming along too.

I have reflectors all over my frame, which should have been visible from the side, but when a motorist only looks one way while turning when I had the right of way, you can only do so much. This is also how victims of road violence get blamed, and then nothing changes. No consequences, no road redesign. Or you do get a road redesign, but only after blood's already been spilled. Don't ever trust the police narratives, especially from NYPD. Almost always wrong.

	♥ 7:46am Handy Haversack: I saw a new Ghost Bike in my neighborhood while walking around yesterday. A friend of ours was killed on her bike by a car in 2008. What Rosey said about how cops assign blame in these matters is 100 percent spot-on.

Every life matters, but don't forget that some of those ghost bikes represent kids, the end result of a society that prioritizes cars above almost literally anything else. The point isn't to be anti-car. It's just to be anti whatever the heck it is we're doing in this country.

I’ve always loved it myself, but have never had any collisions, and have never had to earn my living that way. My favorite ride is early Sunday morning, riding over the Brooklyn Bridge and through the financial district— not a soul there!

Whenever he was in town(his wife, Glodean, was a San Pedro, CA, native) he would come into the record store I worked at in search of R&B 45s. We would provide him with a stool on which he perched his 300+ pound body as he shouted out titles and we staffers would scramble around in our stacks for these "gems." Imperious and arrogant to a fault, he would become irritable if we couldn't find a particular title. He always left with at least a few items, but never a word of thanks for our efforts. Happy to say, visits from other music celebs were far more pleasant and gratifying. The "Oogum Boogum" man, Brenton Wood, and super jazz flutist, James Newton (also both San Pedro natives) were perfect gentlemen. Never got a chance to meet D Boon and the Minutemen at the store, but I did meet them elsewhere. Fine folks indeed!

	♥ 7:31am Rosey is Listening on WFMU.org: Also very happy to be here this morning instead of in the hospital or worse. Last night was at least the second time in less than a week that I almost got killed or seriously hurt on my bicycle. I was going across a crosswalk and couldn't make eye contact with a motorist making a right on red because it was dark outside. It wasn't until she was slowly hitting me with her car that I could see she was looking to the left the entire time, even as I was getting hit. Her not jamming on the accelerator is how the thin the line is between me getting a small cut on my leg and me spending the night in the hospital. I have a traumatic brain injury history and struggle with fatigue issues still. I came very close to sustaining more permanent and cumulative brain damage. Cycling is such a huge part of who I am, but this is why I can only do so much riding somewhere like NYC. Very frustrating and depressing. Was also the second time in like two days that I slapped someone's car out of anger. Your decisions on the road, as minor as they may seem, can carry severe consequences for vulnerable road users. The roads down here in Austin are designed to kill pedestrians. The crossings are so dangerous. I had to escort an old woman in a power chair once. What does she do when I'm not there?

I had an experience in Upper Manhattan a few months ago, on the very small part of the ride when I was on a road instead of dedicated bike space, that is exactly how new cyclists wind up never getting back on the bike. Cycling through NYC can be one of the most magical experiences, passing through one neighborhood after the next.

A motorist blocked the sidewalk while trying to get back onto the road. I had to swerve onto the road, and like two seconds later, a pickup truck passed me in the same lane. I’ve always loved it myself, but have never had any collisions, and have never had to earn my living that way.
