August 7, 2021:
Israeli Singer and Actor Liraz Finds Her Iranian Roots in Hollywood
Israel’s Liraz was inspired to musically explore her Iranian-Jewish roots in an unlikely place - Hollywood. While acting in films with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Sean Penn, she discovered LA's huge Iranian community. (She's currently featured in the television series Tehran.) Soon she was singing in Farsi, and on her latest album Zan (Glitterbeat), collaborating with Iranian musicians.
Liraz joins us ahead of gigs at the Barbès in the Woods Festival Saturday August 21st and outdoors at Lincoln Center Tuesday evening August 24th.

ShelbyG: It's a tour of the LH by a guy who'd owned a few buildings there in the 70s, gives a history of the area by talking about the various businesses. I haven't had a chance to watch much because I want to give it my undivided attention later, but the Runza connection would be that building on Haight and Fillmore that was known briefly as Little Omaha.
