I was once hailed down the street by Mission of Burma because I was wearing a WFMU T-shirt. I had no idea who they were, though I was going to their show. It was delayed due to a soccer game to people at the venue wanted to watch. So I got to meet them, because of the station

Electrolane: they were in heavy rotation in my house 15 years ago or so. Why have I not played them? Someone else on WFMU played and Electrolane song a few days ago.

I saw them at I think Webster Hall 15ish years ago, on a bill with someone else good, but I can't recall who.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Bimbus Bambus:

In all seriousness I saw Electrelane in 2004 or 5 and it's still one of the best shows I've been to.

Electrelane

There's a new-ish box set collection thing that came out last year that I'm pretty sure is on Bandcamp and is quite a primer (I assume).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Barney Grubbs:

@ultradamno: looks like all the cat pages contain the text "とても人懐こい" = totemo hitonatsukoi (very friendly) and "茶白" = chabyaku (brown-white)--lots of friendly brown-white cats on japanese web-pages.
Not sure now if the band is very tea or very brown (though the "tea" in the song title leads me to believe the former?)

@ultradamno: do you mean the Pence brothers? Please provide video of them on a skate, however short it's likely to be, it should be delightfully humilating

Them sounds, sound rite!

No, Fonzpunx. Pence brothers can barely walk, much less do sick skate stunts.

Anarchy too much like Libertarianism - & then you've got hardcore RightWingers sneaking in the back door to Power - & the People blithering about FreeDumbs when really Deregulation means the UltraRich can buy anything & to hell with the rest of us...
Ultimately, I'm a mystic & I think the Taoists have the truest perception of how the Cosmos relates to Social Order. The Tao Te Ching posits that we only need Rules when the Way has been lost. Ultimately - Laws won't work when People have no true regard for each other. So that is the real work.
But down a level from that - as it were - as Isms go I'd sign off on Democratic Socialism. & aside from being able to Vote fairly on things (an unrealized ideal) ...yerknow - they say a lynchmob is a Democracy. It's not really - because there's too many who don't get included in such a 'vote'. But it does make the point that Human Rights matter. So there perhaps needs to be a Constitution of some kind for those...
Aside from Lao Tzu - there was George Orwell warning us that Isms & Words are slippery eels indeed - & Pledging Allegiance to any Ideology or certainly Slogan is not necessarily a way to solve Problems - & may even be the opposite...
Because - the I Ching tells me there *is* a time for true Revolution - which means literally a complete turning in a natural Cycle. Which is distinct from mere rebellions - which just result in one faulty Leader or Order replacing the previous one. What to do when the actual Environment & Survival - & all the potentials of Homo sapiens en toto are in the crosshairs of destruction from the Militant Imperialists & the Industrial Greedheads & the Ideologues ?

@RRN63: You overestimate most anarchists ability to take themselves seriously. Sure, there are true believers, but in what? I know a guy who's a director on the board of the official radio of the French Anarchist Federation. Someone had to have that position for them to get a radio license. Does he take it seriously? No, not beyond getting that license

fred - the French presumably are closer to & (I'd hope!) have a better understanding of all political terminology - & its related actual History. I fear the USA is less mature. & better armed. How many 'Anarchists' ended up hiding in Hitler's / Mussolini's skirts? Or Stalin's? I'm thinking also of the Libertarians & TobyKeith fans being 'Smash the State' types (as posited earlier)...
I revile the Right ...but I also resent the so-called 'Left' as it is here & now for having no Marxist toe if insight on Class Rage. Rawk'n'Roll here - as much as it generally aligns with the Progressive - has a *lot* of hatred of the Bourgeoisie & the Karens in a great %age of its DNA.

I was a member of Socialist Alternative in seattle for years. They got shit done. I read a lot. I did a lot. But. I realized that I’m just not a joiner.
I’m not an anarchist. But, it would seem contrary to common sense that anarchists would be joiners either.
Hard to get much done. And people corrupt everything.
