Becky! Tonkies!

Poor Depp, first interrupted by a Rutle and now "boycotted" by "Hollywood"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm

Tonkin' while craftin'. Hello all.

Becky! Tonka Trucks!

Hiya, Becky, gang!
  8:04pm
BH:

Thanks to the "not paying out much" evil entity Spotify for alerting me that "Hey, we have the 'Monsters' Holiday' Buck Owens album up now."

No idea why it was just made available last week. Apparently not all 70s albums that received 2 stars on AllMusic were on Spotify. So that was 25 minutes well spent in the middle of the night while in bed.

Hey Becky! I say this with no ill will, but you sound like the Honky Drunk Radio Girl. If so… Cheers! 🤠

Thanks Jake! So good to know.

Handy Haversack:

I am definitely perfecting my drunk listening skills.

JakeGould:

Handy! Saw a kayaker near one of the NYC Ferry docks in deep Brooklyn and thought of you. Also, thought that guy was nuts being out so deep in Brooklyn waters.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
PigeonsAndRust:

I'll shecond that Handy

BH:

Flashback to the mid-2000s when I decided "Okay, i'll download 'Seven Spanish Angels'" and found.. "hey this is pretty good"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
luka:

i… don’t think i’ve heard ray charles do country? this smokes.
Avatar 8:27pm
Ivan from Woodbridge:

@luka me neither. Another educational moment on Fmu, should that issue ever resurface.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Becky:

Yeah!! Ray Charles had country in the heart of everything he did. Also this song makes me cry.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
PigeonsAndRust:

I used to hear this all of the time back when there were still pop standards station on AM. I miss them
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Handy Haversack:

WORD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Becky:

You must put aside the white people choir on these records. A crime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Pauly from Clifton:

PigeonsAndRust, that's exactly how I first heard of Ray Charles. That and the C&W music collections that were hawked on WOR and WPIX, back in the day.
  8:33pm
BH:

there were a few early 60s country songs with an eerily similar choir or echoing backup vocals, weren't there?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Handy Haversack:

Seriously, Becky. But Ray Charles ... what a gift.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Becky:

Like who decided we needed the white people choir?? Why? Was this considered a value-add?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
ultradamno:

I think they came with the room
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Handy Haversack:

My experience so far is that it's hard to get the money guys to get the white people out of the damn way.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Possibly a make-work WPA project.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
McGroovey:

I could listen to Ray Charles all night now.

But yeah, the white-girl choir is cheesey. The black-girl choir is better.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Gaylord Fields:

Haha, Becky! No love for the Pale-ettes from you.
  8:38pm
JakeGould:

@Becky: The same people who thought Louie Anderson was needed as the white guy in “Coming to America.”

Still this is such a funny scene in the film “Hey, I started out mopping the floor just like you guys. But now... now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a year or two, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in.”
  8:40pm
BH:

just remembered the "Johnny Cash at Sun" album where they had versions of some of his songs without the overdubbed backup vocals.

But yeah, there's some sorta Nashville Sound stuff on various songs by various artists that is... something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
loveless:

Awwwww, my cold bitter heart is melting . . .
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
ultradamno:

I'd like to think no one would dispute it, but watching Link Wray get dicked around by the rockhall makes one wonder how these thing work.
  8:43pm
wenzo:

love this numba!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Handy Haversack:

Nice. Felicitaciones, Maya and Matt.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
PigeonsAndRust:

I had to check : Ray was backed up on ' I Can't Stop Lovin' You' by the Randy Van Horne Singers, who sang the themes for Hanna-Barbera cartoons like The Flintstones and The Jetsons!
  8:44pm
BH:

deep in the vaults of a record studio is Ray Charles and the Van Horne Singers singing the theme to the Flintstones
  8:49pm
P-90:

That Flintstones theme by Hoyt Curtin is a work of genius. Jazz musicians love to jam that tune,
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Handy Haversack:

As we say on Saturday mornings: bongo feet!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

The Randy Van Horne singers are the ones who go "Pow!" and "Zu-zu-zu" on Esquivel's records. Even that may have worked better on Ray's songs.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
PigeonsAndRust:

Gosh, they are soo pale....but yet it's captivating to see them sing The Flintstones theme about 50 years after they originally did. Honky Tonk's polar opposite! youtu.be...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

A good trivia question would be who sings the Hinky Dinky Time theme song.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Becky!

ALSO: YEEEEEAH, Becky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
radioronan:

Thank you Becky!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
PigeonsAndRust:

Hinky Dinky, Drinky Winky, Honky Dronky.

Thanks Becky!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
McGroovey:

Loved the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Thanks, Becky!
  9:00pm

Lovely show as always! Thanks!
