You have to remember, a shell has a fixed volume, I believe you can only get 2 or 3 notes out of one. Playing a melody line involves quickly changing shells, if you want more than those notes. It's fun to watch.

Happy birthday Joëlle! Great choice for your triumphant return, Stork. Her 3-show celebration of 60 years of playing came just before the pandemic hit the fan. She told me she was frustrated by how little recognition she got in France, compared to the US. Not an usual complaint, but she's not an usual person

@fred, irritating pedant’s note: I’m not sure about continental English, but Americans say “a usual” instead of “an usual” because of the consonant sound starting “usual”. (It looks weird either way in print, though.) Much like “an hour” instead of “a hour”. (That said, I had no idea how to pronounce “milquetoast” while talking to an attractive woman yesterday, and then instead of just moving on, drew attention to my own uncertainty, so… yeah.)

I once saw Joëlle Léandre play as part of a dance show by Josef Nadj (he has great taste for musicians to invite, but the dance in these shows is often subpar)

adamdoesit: was that a SFL premium?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
adamdoesit:

MBB(e/t): Yes! Well, some of it. Not sure if it was the bumpersticker, the saw, or the chainguard. Maybe 2/3?

If get one off those chainsaws, but if likely just wind up removing some body part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
fred:

I'm angry with myself that you couldn't get her on the show. I don't know her, but I could have got a message to her with more time, and she's a delight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
fred:

@doc: does your record collection count as a body part? If so, watch out for whirring sounds in your household
Avatar 3:26pm
Stork:

I'm a bit miffed with myself, fred. Coulda shoulda woulda asked her earlier. Who knows?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
fred:

Ask her anyway and ignore rules
Avatar 3:34pm
Stork:

I confess, I chickened out on calling her on the phone when my text didn't go thru. Just seemed a bit presumptuous. especially to call her ON HER BIRTHDAY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

One of my lingering regrets is that I never saw Susie Ibarra. So far

She is an amazing specimen of a person and a musician who all should check out to WATCH her perform. That force of nature cliche was actually made up for her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm

Forget the birthday thing and get her on the show then, find a pretext later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
