...about as great as the Great American Songbook can get - a fusion of Roots Musics & Jazz & Classical & Theater & even EastEuropean Folk influences that could only have come from Gershwin in NYC USA in that specific time & no other - & still challenging to classify defintively. I got into a disagreement with a Londoner who claimed that the whole London fog thing was a complete myth. She did not seem to buy that it was largely caused by pollution from household coal fires (plus the natural dampness of the city), which it was.

Jeff, it hasn’t actually been foggy here for donkeys years. My dad remembered the ‘pea soupers’ of the early 50s though. Once the bus he was on had to stop at Manor Park because it just couldn’t go any further. He got out and he said it was like standing in pure white, you just couldn’t see anything. By an amazing stroke of luck, there was a blind man on the bus, and he lead my dad home.
