Beats mismatched. New mystic moods. The International Style. Pressed and dressed. Queasy listening. New ways to fail. More is more. Backroom room tones.

Avatar 3:10am Jesse Dorris:

Apart from that it's been a wild week--very lucky and grateful to have a ton of work happening all at once. How are you?

Avatar 3:11am Sylvia:

yeah, Jesse, I was thinking about that, you've done many tribute shows these past year...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:11am Paulo AD:

Jesse :( yeah seems to be a hot patch

I'm alright, back in the office for three days, so I'm fully suited and booted right now

  3:13am chillroom:

A rarity. I'm here live. A true rarity for me. Saw the Cabs at Danceteria in 1985. At the conclusion of Crackdown, the cheering audience was greeted with a photo of Hitler on the 23 monitors. Dubversive.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:14am Paulo AD:

I'm going for another 36hour fast
  3:14am JW McCormack:

Hey Jesse, great show so far. Did you see that Luc Sante is now Lucy Sante?
Avatar 3:16am Jesse Dorris:

@chillroom welcome aboard. And...holy shit. And 23 of course. Goodness!
Avatar 3:17am Jesse Dorris:

Thanks @JW! And whoa! I did not see that. Very interesting, and congratulations to Lucy!
Avatar 3:18am Jesse Dorris:

@chillroom do you remember who they played with?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18am Scott67:

Paulo, I could only do that if Beer was classed as necessary fluids.
πŸΊπŸ’€
  3:18am chillroom:

I'll look.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:20am Paulo AD:

Wll I have a couple glasses of wine and a beer last night so I'm feeling pretty bad. I got in and keri had baked cookies so I may or may not have snaffled a few of them
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:21am Paulo AD:

Did these and suicide ever cross paths?
Avatar 3:22am Sylvia:

you’re right, Paulo, sounds similar
Avatar 3:23am Jesse Dorris:

They definitely were peers. In fact, there's a live recording, I can't remember which one, of the Cabs where Mal starts the track singing a little of Dream Baby Dream!
Avatar 3:24am Jesse Dorris:

Sheffield's answer to Suicide, maybe!
Avatar 3:24am Jesse Dorris:

And this tape of course released on Throbbing Gristle's label
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:25am Paulo AD:

I saw the date of this on the playlist so I was wonder if they had ever collabed. Crazy that two bands from completly different places had the same kind of ideas

Avatar 3:26am Jesse Dorris:

Sad occasion but happy to do it. Just wait until we get into their acid house era!
  3:26am David in London:

Morning Jesse and all Glotals.
Avatar 3:26am Jesse Dorris:

@Surgeon give 'em a treat or two for me
  3:27am Surgeon:

Hello Sylvia Paulo Scott!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:27am Paulo AD:

I love a bit of acid house so I'll look forward to that
Avatar 3:29am Sylvia:

Happy cats! I have one in the garden, the other is taking a nap while listening to the show, she loves music
  3:29am David in London:

Really sad that Richard H has died. Remember buying the 12in of Yashar and thinking that there really was no one doing anything remotely like it at the time.
  3:29am chillroom:

Well, it was The Ritz on 11th Street, not Danceteria. The show is available online 9 May 1985. But I haven't found a bill so I don't see anyone else listed. They were very muich the headliners of course. I'm recording all this, Jesse. I'm getting wonderful rarities -- like this This Is Entertainment. Thank you so much.
  3:30am David in London:

Paulo, Sylvia, Scotty, surgeon, morning all.
  3:30am Surgeon:

@Jesse The shows were good. Glasgow under a railway bridge between Luke Slater and Ben Sims. Berlin was the best. Nearly 5 hours b2b with my great friend DJ Pete from Hardwax 😎
  3:30am Surgeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am Scott67:

Avatar 3:32am Sylvia:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:33am Paulo AD:

How ls it going Dai. Getting ready for your day?
Avatar 3:33am Jesse Dorris:

Hey @David, I know the feeling. When I was, I don't know, maybe 11 I remember walking into In Your Ear in Providence and they were playing Nag, Nag, Nag and it blew my mind.
  3:33am Surgeon:

@Sylvia. Haha. Yes!
Avatar 3:34am Jesse Dorris:

@chillroom ooh thanks for that. The Ritz! What a crowd that must have been. And lots of goodies to come.

Hi all! @Paulo, do you drink tea to suppress your appetite? I find that some green teas help make me less hungry, but I have to be very picky with them. Some of them are disgusting, while others are really lovely.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:42am Paulo AD:

Ike, alot of coffee in the morning then yeah switch to green and herbal teas in the afternoon. And ALOT of water
I've found a great Earl grey green tea. Also some great match green teas

  3:58am David in London:

I remember they did this when I saw them at Hammersmith Palais at the end of β€˜84.
It was really full on.
Avatar 3:58am Jesse Dorris:

I sort of think Kirk might have felt like your situation is an ideal listening environment, Phillip
Avatar 3:58am Jesse Dorris:

Oh wowww @David. The drums in this must have been wild live
  3:59am David in London:

Jesse, they did Sensoria, which hadn’t long come out I think, and it was a total barnstormer.
Avatar 4:02am Jesse Dorris:

WHOA
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:05am jinjabredboy:

This is all kinda strange for me - you listen to all kinds of music for decades and there are major artists who sit plum in the centre of the things you love and yet you realise you have never actually listened to any of their work - blindspot artists I guess - or is it just me?
  4:05am David in London:

I rather regret not having made the effort to see the show at The Devils Arse Cave in 2017 now. Sigh. It’s always later than you think.
Avatar 4:06am Sylvia:

same @jinjabredboy I only knew Cabaret Voltaire by name
  4:08am David in London:

Jinjabredboy, that’s what we’re lucky enough to have Jesse for...
  4:09am Surgeon:

@jinjabredboy There’s always so much pure gold music to discover.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:11am jinjabredboy:

This is an important three hours for me
Avatar 4:11am Jesse Dorris:

I never saw them live, it's such a shame
Avatar 4:12am Jesse Dorris:

And thanks, all. These tribute shows come from places of loss and sadness but I'm so grateful to have a space to dig in and really listen to artists I've loved all my life and try to make sense of how they sound now. Heartening it means something to you out there in radioland!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:15am jinjabredboy:

Totally!

Jinja I'm with you on this
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:24am Paulo AD:

Morning Stanley, well afternoon now
  4:25am David in London:

The search for absorbing β€˜new’ music is often so strong now, and combined with such a massive accretion of past music, sometime I feel that sadly it means not going back enough and devoting proper time to what you already love. I haven’t listened to the Cabs this much in years and years, and now I’m aware of what a ridiculous situation that is.
  4:26am modern blaze:

The Cabs, top of my list in the eighties. Other notable acts keeping me focussed on my 'lifestyle' at that time - Durutti Column, Alien Sex Fiend, The Furs, Cocteau Twins, The Fall, Jesus and Mary Chain. So many good bands back then.

(Do yer remember the eighties! Do yer, do yer?)
