Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

The Troggs were a punk band, American style.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Fave Kinks era, Kip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Brian in UK:

It was difficult to hear the album tracks over here until the late Sixties, it was mainly singles. due to the fact that there was only the BBC who grudgingly accepted popular culture. The Pirate ships made people realise that there was another whole world out there. Then BBC Radio 1 appeared in 1967. Thank you John Peel for being true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Chili MacPagoda:

Yes!! Long live John Peel πŸ™ŒπŸ’œπŸ™Œ
  5:34pm
Jon:

This is great. Excellent set, as always!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Discotech Underground:

Brian-The US was somewhat similar. AM radio was very "hit" singles dominated until they decided to start doing more "underground" programming on the FM band, which featured more album tracks and deep cuts. That opened up a whole new world, also.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Discotech Underground:

Thanks, Jon! I appreciate you coming by to listen!

Woo-I disovered FM radio in the early to middle 70's but they were far away stations that were hard to get except at night. I used to run wires out of my bedroom window and attach them to the side of the house to try to pull them in and listen to all the great sounds I couldn't hear anywhere else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
Chili MacPagoda:

Dig the way Sid plays on this track. Science fiction future primitive - so damn unique
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Emeline:

Hi Brian! Hi Woo! Yo Chili! Hi Julie! Are you still here? I wasn’t sure if you got my message about the love beads. 😍
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Discotech Underground:

Brian-During the summer when I was off of school I would stay up way into the night listening. The wires on the side of the house would act as an antenna! I even hooked them to the metal guttering of the house hoping it would conduct and pick up the airwaves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Brian in UK:

Mick Abrahams left soon to form Blodwyn Pig. Saw them open for Love, early 1970 on their first tour over here.

Until Sgt Pepper, singles were the main currency. I think that changed things forever and showed what could be done. Though ofcourse there were albums before but generally they were singles/b-sides and filler until '65/66.They do not have the credibilty that SP gave the 33 1/3 rpm. I know Revolver is a great album.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for sharing the afternoon/evening with me! Hope you enjoyed the sounds! We'll do it again next Thursday, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel! Be sure to partake in all the great Hellraiser special shows all over WFMU Land this month! Take Care!
