I saw a photo of a Monkees song on RCA. Anyone know if that was a foreign thing? I thought all of their stuff was on Colgems.

sw2442:

Hi Eric...the short answer is the RCA distributed Colgems here in the U.S. and Canada. I believe all Monkees and probably those other Colgems acts worldwide, like the U.K., were on the RCA label.

Eric, sw2442, Mom, hope all are well. I have a bad cold for a week now. Eric, I have several RCA Canadian 45s including "She hangs Out" original version B side replaced in the US with "Girl I Knew Somewhere."

hey Clark! I learned something today.

Hi WLSClark...I thought maybe Canada had the Colgems label too...maybe it was strictly the U.S. only.

WLS - a cold for a week - get it checked out - covid has lots of symptoms

Yeah I was gonna get a test, but they are all booked up right now here. May still. I am feeling MUCH better than a week ago, but my cough always lingers forever with colds.

sw2442. Colgems may well be in Canada, but my 45 was RCA Canada.

sw2442:

WLSClark...that's a good question about Colgems being in Canada...I'll have to research that. The Beatles' Apple Records wasn't fully available worldwide at the start. Some countries like Mexico and others didn't have the copyright, I believe, to start using the Apple label, so early singles like Hey Jude, Those Were the Days, etc., were either on Parlophone, Capitol, Odeon, and others.

sw2442, RCA did all kinds of weird things then. Dynaflex was certainly one. Calendar morphed into Kirshnir. That Davy Jones label had, what, 2 releases?? What was that all about?? Weird.
As to your Beatles, Odeon and Parlophone always confused me. Different countries had totally different 45 releases in many cases with Apple.

WLSClark...Davy Jones' label had only 4 single releases I believe. Supposedly, Davy had sour memories about the label. Andrew's new revised Monkees book covers the label...which I procrastinated on getting, and now it's too late...but I sadly digress..
About the Apple thing...right...each country had the ability to issue their own Apple singles depending on which songs on certain Beatles albums were popular in that country.

Andrew, if you happen to be reading these messages, and with all the Mike and Micky things, I'm guessing that's very unlikely...but I wanted to say I truly enjoyed this episode about Colgems. If it hasn't been done yet, a through Colgems CD set needs to be compiled...thanks...
