hello Jesse + folks. The sound of energy! Wind turbines are so cool b/c they look so slow until you try to follow the outside edge of a blade.
Avatar 7:49pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

hey drowsy! I think this recording may be a combo of air sounds and contact microphone picking up the vibrations but not positive
Avatar 7:50pm
TDK60:

The notes of the turbine whistle seems to be going between F and C.
Avatar 7:51pm
still b/p:

Some people who live in their shadow and noise zone claim stresses and maladies, though I don't hear as much about that as I did several years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
drowsy:

wow - makes me want to know where the microphone is - like on the external wall near the base or somewhere else. So cool. This is like listening for a train by putting an ear to the rails. But sounds like a recording during a meteor shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
drowsy:

ZOMG beavers! What rules about beavers is they allow other animals to couch surf in their dens. I wonder if they have other guests....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

Around here it's transmission towers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm

still b/p - and now I think I get it chresti. I think 5G is the new hotness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
drowsy:

in terms of invisible stress. I do believe that toxic while noisey stuff IS bad, when its bad. But I am a skeptic on the turbine and transmission stuff. Open to being wrong though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm

Friends ran into difficulty selling their condo in SB due to prospective buyer's health concerns about the nearby towers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm

i love how this beaver phrase developed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm

Chresti - ugh. I hope that resolved!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm

I know birds running into them is a concern with the turbines.

Avatar 8:08pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey coelacanthø!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
drowsy:

I have read (not primary stuff) that if one blade is painted birds strikes go way way down, and a lot depends on the location of the turbine. I root for both the birds and the turbines so I do hope it is true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Little Danny:

love this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
StringOFperils:

Good evening, Jesse. Here for my zen therapy.
  8:20pm
Andres:

Good evening, Jesse and neighbours! The wind turbines was a a controversial dinner table listen. There are anti-turbiners in the extended family and some less tolerant listeners in the immediate family. Someone insinuated that the sound would haunt them in their sleep. Good fun it was ! :)
Avatar 8:22pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Evening StringOfperils!
Evening Andres!
I'm looking forward to revisiting that sound in my sleep, for better or worse..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
StringOFperils:

It doesn't leave you feeling hungry an hour later. Eminently satisfying in every way.
  8:31pm
Andres:

As to beavers, there is a river and wildlife corridor through the middle of the city here and beavers are amongst the residents. The evidence of their presence is frequent - small felled trees. Catching a glimpse of one has been fleeting as they spook easily.
  8:32pm
Listener Gregory:

Well, I tune in late and find I missed the wind turbines. I guess it serves me right. Good evening to all for whom it is evening.
Avatar 8:34pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Evening Gregory but I'm afraid we may have peaked at the turbines ;/
Avatar 8:34pm
Constantly Choking:

Set sounding nice tonight
Avatar 8:35pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Constantly Choking :)
Avatar 8:38pm
still b/p:

Near a backpack shelter about 20 years ago I stood on a riverbank above a beaver lodge, watched the beaver making trips to far bank to chew off a branch or bough and swim back, and then submerging to enter the lodge. Then you could hear vocalizations from inside the lodge and the splash of reentering the water in there to appear again outside on the river surface. Pretty fantastic moments.
Avatar 8:39pm
Listener Gregory:

I once heard Toshimaru Nakamura play as part of the group "Four Gentlemen of the Guitar." I had no idea what I was getting into. Some audience members walked out after 15 min. At that point I thought that this was a huge waste of time. But I stuck it out, and by the end I thought it was one of the most incredible concerts I have ever heard. Maybe that was the beginning of the end for me.
Avatar 8:40pm
Listener Gregory:

Notably, no one actually held and played a guitar at the concert of that name, which some might have considered misleading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
chresti:

They came from the town of guitar, maybe, LG.
Avatar 8:43pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Oh wow that's a heavy group :0
  8:44pm
Andres:

It takes 15 mins just to get comfortable in the seat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
drowsy:

Listener Gregory, google tells me Fennesz was one of the four. Now I have some clue about Nakamura thanks to Jesse. Sounds like an awesome show.
Avatar 8:47pm
TDK60:

The rhythm reminded me of the old locomotives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
drowsy:

still b/p that sounds equally good!
  8:49pm
Listener Gregory:

They had all ONCE played the guitar but got distracted by their electronics, effects, etc. Nakamura just plays the mixing board now. Another gentleman used a magnet over a guitar pickup (I think). It was very noise-based.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
chresti:

That's the way to see a beaver, still b/p!
  8:52pm
Andres:

JK Flesh - sometimes Godflesh, Jesu, or part of Napalm Death. Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Little Danny:

this is gorgeous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
coelacanth∅:

hi chresti (belated)

...people that would leave after only 15 minutes of a show because their bored deserve to miss out. it's not for them.
...though i've left shows sooner for other reasons; like the drummer is unimaginatively cymbol-heavy, or it's just abrasive in a completely sucky way -for the sake of being abrasive, but with no grace or discretion.
- or it's smooth jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
drowsy:

The first set of NN always hits me, I wonder how much time it takes to arrive at set of good ones like that. It must be even harder with field than picking music. Jesse, I get a lot from that effort, thanks.
(Same goes for Little Danny. it hits me when I take in the video provided during the show.)
Avatar 8:58pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@drowsy :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm

Same here, drowzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm
solo mon:

Hi hi jesse and friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm
drowsy:

Coelanth, I hear ya. I've only left shows if I it hurts! I never carried ear protection and I regret it now. I did also leave a Psychic TV show because I was sure they were using bass to slow my breathing. But maybe I gave them too much credit for their magicks... Hey solo mon!
Avatar 9:07pm
Listener Gregory:

@drowsy, are you saying that the first set is NOT music?
Avatar 9:07pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey solo mon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
Little Danny:

sollloooo mon!
  9:09pm
Andres:

Howzabout a Neighbors Noise vs Primal Ice Cream dj battle?! :) That’d be a party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
drowsy:

Ha LG - it is to me, point taken. I just find it easier to keep/disqualify a song or composition by skipping around than I do for a field recording - I don't want to miss out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
drowsy:

so I figure the investment is longer for a field set.
Avatar 9:12pm
Constantly Choking:

man, never caught this show before but it's super nice!

@Andres, throwing down the gauntlet haha

Deep down here Jesse
Avatar 9:18pm
Listener Gregory:

@drowsy, I think listening to "outside" music of various forms has made me a more patient person. Even things that sound incomprehensible start to hold together after you've given them a chance. And if you don't like what you're hearing, wait a minute, because it may all change suddenly. Just like New England weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
Aitch:

@coelacanth∅ cymbals should be regulated. Improper use leads to needless pain from the listener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
drowsy:

Agree @Listener Gregory, its like the music composes within us in real time, as opposed to being served up whole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
StringOFperils:

Before musics became codified and departmentalized, this is how it was. Pure listening to our world. Ears open. Creativity engaged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm

Agree @stringofperils. Also this set is meshing so well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Andres...(@901) this is news to me but -probably not!

If only we understood the music of the wind turbines, the secrets of the world would lie open to us.

The guys that call the wind "Mariah" also call that river the "Rye-o" Grand.
