Dear Sweet Baby Cthulhu, please let me make it until 6 PM (work ends) and through my 6-8:30 PM online class without falling asleep and/or snapping at anyone. SO tired. It's a weird time of year where my building can be either too hot or too cold, AND I had massive insomnia which my meds did very little for. Note to self: If it's past 2 AM, and your alarm is set to 7:30 AM, do NOT try to make yourself more sleepy with apple-pie-flavored Delta 8 syrup mixed into a finger or two of cheap whiskey. Yes, I felt great and sleepy half an hour later...and was absolutely cemented to the bed this AM. Didn't start work until almost 10 AM; forewent showering. Didn't even have the energy to make coffee until almost noon. WAKE ME UP CREAMO!

@johnec apparently for some folks with neurological conditions it metabolizes into an analog of certain neurotransmitters and is therefore a no-no for me, along with Nutrasweet of all things (breaks down similarly; both related to all kinds of unpleasant side effects). FWIW I can't even TASTE Nutrasweet when I've been given it by accident (ie getting a Diet Coke instead of a real Coke).

Melatonin is actually a Hormone - produced by the pineal gland ('third eye') - & regulated in proportion to one's exposure to light. Therefore relating to diurnal cycles... The say one makes plenty when young - correlating to how soundly children sleep - & less later.
What I find is it *does* make me sleep more deeply with more vivd dreams & a refreshed feeling like that ...eventually. But it does *not* get me to sleep 20 min.s after I take it like you'd wish a pill would...
Yeah it's tricky giving medical advice... The thing about Molecules & Chemicals - correct me if I'm wrong - is there are actually not that many Elements - so Secondary & Side Effects in the body happen all over the place... Biology is an Ecology, if you will...

I’m very lucky in that melatonin works very well for me, *if* I can convince myself to take it *and* remember to take it. Weird how all our taste buds and neurological makeups are so different. Nutrasweet tastes super bitter to me, alcohol never gives me a buzz, and jazz cigarettes usually just annoy me because they dilate time so that it takes 3 years to walk to the bathroom and take a whiz.

Accepted the idea that restorative quality of sleep is bound to depth of the dream state - & that dreams help one process experience as well. But - it's all on the table what the truth is, isn't it? What am I - a Researcher ? Dreams are surely perplexing & involved... What fascinates me is that they *do* present such a compelling other 'reality' - when they are happening... Well - it's the relation of Realism to the Dream of the Unconscious that ideally gives us - well - Super Reality, or Surrelaism. You could do a sort of hyperrealistic DC thing with those WWII Era archetype heroes that could work with CGI & everything there is now... They re such great Characters - they ought to be - well - just about Indestructible...

The predominate function of elected representatives must be to Inform their constituents. Possibly their vote counts as a percentage of constituents who do not cast their (weekly?) vote on whatever the issue(s) might be (if representatives remain necessary) . . But ultimately, every individual constituent has a direct say (vote by iphone, internet at library etc) on every issue that currently only elected representatives have the authority to vote on. We need Politicians who will destroy the Power of politicians.
Avatar 4:30pm
Fox:

The strengths of DC and Marvel as comic book companies is magnified by their forays into film. DC has always struggled with continuity, their strengths in What Ifs and offshoot graphic novels that aren't necessarily connected to the rest of the universe very well. Marvel has comparatively excelled at a cohesive universe, but it gets difficult to wade into half way through.

Still, it's insane to me that a major company like WB couldn't get it's shit together and come up with one storyline and universe for all its live action stuff. Or even all it's animated stuff. It's ridiculous.

Fox:

Threemoons - WOW! That's fascinating! I was born 3 months early in 1976 and thought to be severely brain damaged, but ended up being one of those brainiac kids who was reading fluently by age 3. I wonder if that's related?

Like - they blindfold people, & after three weeks the occipital lobes of the brain start changing over from Sight activity to processing Sound data & such. Encouraging, in a way.

Threemoons:

@Fox quite possible and in a similar boat. I DO have some physical deficits as well as a few behavoiral/social ones, but yeah, in a society where a lot is placed on doing well in school and reading, I was able to play to my strong suits. Suffice it to say that I LOVE working from home and if you tripled my salary tomorrow you still couldn't pry me out of my apartment.

@Fox but yeah speaking in baby sentences at 11 months, reading at 16 months, unable to sit myself up from a prone position until I was 3.

Fox, I was a geriatric pregnancy and also supposed to be damaged and like you was reading by three.

Nice, Will! I'm wearing the Taylor Ham shirt right now!

OK now I am getting Swag Envy! I want my Taylor Ham Shirt! FWIW, my Mom, when she is up to it, loves to hit one of two "overpriced gourmet supermarket thingies" nearish to her. The last one we hit had actual Taylor hams, which I had not seen since the Way Before when we would visit my paternal grandparents in Lakewood, NJ. Mom didn't want to buy it but she did recognize it..

What's the appropriate means of execution for a denier of fuzz? Window cleaner like Merv injected people with in Man With Two Brains?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm

(Memo to self: Admit the possibility of fuzz!)

Will, the NYS "I voted" sticker fits just about perfectly on the Taylor Ham logo!

ultradamno - YES! And why is the Tales for the Crypt series not streaming anywhere? At the very LEAST HBO should stream it.

@Fox a combo of nature and nurture. Every brain is different. Mine just happens to be in a pediatric neurology textbook. BUT...BOTH of my parents were very literate and loved to read to me, and given my general lack of mobility I loved to be read to/play with things that required a minimum of moving around (blocks, kids' puzzles etc).

Threemoons, I have a video of the Brothers Squirm playing over a cover of "Black Angel's Death Song" from Therese's show last week. It's ridiculous. I got to spend all day with them since K8 had six Zoom classes to teach today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm

@HH nice! Linky pls? My Zoom class tonight is an Atlas Obscura thing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm

I am not sure how to share it, Threemoons! I'll ask K8 maybe if I can use Creek and Kills' Vimeo account.
