Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi Bronwyn .. doing a November Set?
Avatar 🎭 7:02pm TonyR:

Sammy is really being Sammy in that outfit.
Avatar 🎭 7:02pm Listener Gregory:

It's cold! Can we go back to October, please?
Avatar 🎭 7:03pm TonyR:

Philly area will see high-60s temps by end of workweek. Happy global warming, y'all!!
Avatar 🎭 7:04pm TonyR:

Winter of 2019-2020, I had to take care of my Mom's house, paying attention to cold snaps, and there was only one that worried me- in mid-February. In every other way it was just Fall all Winter.
Avatar 7:06pm ARB:

Hi babes!
Avatar 🎭 7:07pm TonyR:

Hello, ARB!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I see: Bricusse tribute at last.

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:11pm WR:

Hello AJH streamers. I'm working tonight. Archive listen laters. Bye
Avatar 🎭 7:14pm Listener Gregory:

It's a shame James Coburn didn't sing the songs in the Flint movies. That would have been something.
Avatar 🎭 7:16pm TonyR:

Bricusse Comes Alive!
Avatar 🎭 7:17pm TonyR:

What was once RCA is now BMG/Sony.
Avatar 🎭 7:18pm TonyR:

Nancy's got chops.
Avatar 🎭 7:18pm Listener Gregory:

You Only Live Twice is one of my favorite songs! It hit me when I first heard it in the Bond movie.
Avatar 🎭 7:19pm Roberto:

Technically, that should probably be "You Live Only Twice."
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:19pm doctorjazz:

Hello Bronwyn and AJH listeners!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Webhamster Henry:

"Two for the Road" is a great movie too.
Avatar 🎭 7:20pm Roberto:

I know someone in Two for the Road!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar 🎭 7:22pm Listener Gregory:

My parents had the Broadway (?) cast album of Stop the World I Want to Get Off, which I listened to heavily. There were 'adult themes' that I did not fully understand.
Avatar 🎭 7:22pm Roberto:

And Anthony Newley's son Sasha was in my high school class.
Avatar 🎭 7:23pm Listener Gregory:

Wow, he did the lyrics for Goldfinger too! Man.
I also soaked myself in Doctor Doolittle as a child.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Webhamster Henry:

I knew all those Stop The World tunes too. There was going to be a production here a few years ago, but I think the plot does not wear well.
Avatar 🎭 7:28pm Listener Gregory:

@Webhamster H, Yes, it was pretty sexist in its entire conception.
Bronwyn, if my memory serves, there is no reason to see the Flynn movies, except perhaps for camp enjoyment. But I wouldn't think they have become much more amusing over time.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Webhamster Henry:

The holy grail of unmade animated movies was a super Jazz cast version of Finian's Rainbow to be directed by John Hubley ... killed thanks to the Blacklist. (and Producers-like financing) en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm doctorjazz:

Quite a cast to fail, but those were crazy times...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm solo mon:

Hi đź‘‹!
  7:37pm Listener Gregory:

@doctorj, thank God things are normal now!

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Bronwyn and handsome listeners!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Webhamster Henry:

My friend Matt was organizing a lot of that parade . If you like the parade, you might like Sinterklaas in Rhinebeck, which Jeanne Fleming also produces. sinterklaashudsonvalley.com
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Webhamster Henry:

Where's Vicki? There's a Summer Place!
  8:00pm Listener Gregory:

Medleys of this sort are good for reminding you of all the songs you’d rather hear than the medley. IMHO
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm doctorjazz:

When the medley was on, I told me wife that the medley would have been exhibit #1 for me in the 70s proving that show music sucked...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Lol I think sucking is kind of the point of Oil City Symphony (at least, I gathered that listening to the cast album recently). I THINK it was an early exercise in sucking ironically
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm doctorjazz:

(I've learned better since, or at least had to, with a spouse who's a show music devote, and a daughter who is a musical theater actor)
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Webhamster Henry:

The movie Muriel's Wedding starred Toni Collette, one of my fave actors!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm WR:

Vienna? Wein.

Hi, still working but off zoom...
Avatar 🎭 8:29pm Listener Gregory:

Now that I see the cover, I realize that I rented 8 Femmes not too long ago. It is a murder mystery, in which the femmes are all suspects, if I remember correctly. Entertaining, I think.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

hi, Bronwyn and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm solo mon:

Love Toni Collette! Hey hey Baba Bee!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:30pm WR:

@8:19 @doctorjazz:
And how do you think your spouse and daughter feel about some of the music you listen to?

Which reminds me, somehow I've yet to see / hear one of your daughter's reaction videos about your music. What platform etc, where are they?
Avatar 🎭 8:36pm Roberto:

G.W. Bailey? Know him too! I had a huge crush on his daughter in 1982.
Avatar 🎭 8:37pm Roberto:

Hopefully she's not reading these comments.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm doctorjazz:

Hey WR! I think she posted those on Instagram (she mostly posts on TicToc and Instagram, Rebecca Skowron). But she posts so many videos I those platforms, it's not easy to find anything particular, at least for me). She just reached 11k followers on TicToc. If I can get a specific link, I'll post it.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

hey, solo mon! ooh, yeah, Toni Collette <3 <3
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm WR:

nah, working isn't working. Glued to WFMU and getting beverage.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm doctorjazz:

Fred, who posts in many show boards, watched one of them, and them posted the namw of the piece, and the Destination Out show I was listening to when she filmed it.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for the record party!
Avatar 🎭 8:46pm Listener Gregory:

Darn, I wanted to break the tie and become the favoritest for once!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm doctorjazz:

And, to answer the question who likes what-NO ONE in the house tolerates "out" music, but Rebecca, my older daughter, likes most everything else I like. I've broken my wife in for most other stuff. My younger daughter likes any music...as long as it's punk-metal-pop (fortunately, I can get into much of that, until they go into "screamo" mode).
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm doctorjazz:

The "bridge" betweenmy show music wife, and jazz/punk and everything else me, was the Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald records, which started out as neutral, mutually acceptable listening, and got each of us to appreciate the other's taste.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm doctorjazz:

Thanks for a great show, Bronwyn!
Avatar 🎭 8:53pm Listener Gregory:

The playlist seems frozen in time.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Thanks, Bronwyn! I told a showtunes-obsessed pal about your show!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Webhamster Henry:

Why ARE there so many songs about rainbows, and what's on the other side?
Avatar 🎭 8:56pm Listener Gregory:

I just learned something. The pronunciation of "schoen" by the Andrews Sisters seems completely wrong, to my limited understanding of German. However, that title is a "Germanization" of a prior Yiddish song that was "sheyn [or shein]" rather than "schoen." So now it makes sense even if I don't understand why it was changed to no longer fit the song.
Avatar 🎭 8:57pm Listener Gregory:

Thanks for an excellent show, BB!
  8:58pm diciassette:

thanks Bronwyn!
Avatar 🎭 8:58pm Listener Gregory:

Ella! Woot!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Webhamster Henry:

Here comes Ella Sings Cole Porter Songbook.
Avatar 🎭 8:58pm Listener Gregory:

The swing in her phrasing of just the first line sends chills down my spine.
Avatar 8:59pm ARB:

This songs got shock AND value
Avatar 8:59pm ARB:

Thank you BB!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm WR:

thank you Bronwyn!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm doctorjazz:

All the Ella Somgbooks are terrific!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:
