	♥ 8:19pm ultradamno: Some additional notes on The Urinals family tree I neglected last week that may or may not be of interest, after 100 Flowers drummer Kevin Barrett goes on to God & The State, Project 197 and Radwaste (as does bassist Talley-Jones) meanwhile Kjehl Johansen and Talley-Jones, who had both been in Danny & The Doorknobs would take a couple of other of those guys, join up with Vitus Mataré of The Last and formed Trotsky Icepick.

	8:22pm Mr Fab: Since you missed Kitten, allow me to cut-n-paste my comment: Listening to "I Am Sitting In A Room" again had me thinking about how amazing those early tape pieces were. Even tho we've had decades of sound collage since, and digital tools make it so much easier to make concrete-type stuff, those old cut-n-splice tape works like early S Reich, "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me," this one, are just so astonishing.
	♥ 8:22pm Rich in Washington: The first time I heard I Am Sitting In A Room, I was a teenager and it blew my mind. Now I actually one of the hosts of the very show I first heard it on after the founding host Richard Francis passed away in 2009.

	♥ 9:54pm Rich in Washington: Yeah, Chicago and Boston and NY had huge skinhead scenes before Portland. My friend Erin did a fascinating podcast series on the white supremacist scene in 80s Portland. It's called It Did Happen Here. It's really worth listening to.
	♥ 9:56pm ultradamno: There was a big outdoor show in Indianapolis that DOA and The Dicks headlined and a bunch of Chicago skins showed up at and they put aluminum can tabs between their fingers for the mosh pit. Nice kids.

	♥ 9:58pm Rich in Washington: the skinhead thing got awful at punk shows towards the end of the 80s and early 90s. Most punk kids were easy prey and the police weren't sympathetic. I remember swarms of skinheads just showing up at shows and basically shutting them down.

	10:00pm Mr Fab: Yikes. LA didn't have a nazi-punk problem. But we did the Suicidals. I liked Suicidal Tendencies as a band but I don't recall them ever attempting to distance themselves from those flaming assholes.
	♥ 10:01pm Rich in Washington: Maybe one of my last punk shows of that era, I went to see Tesco Vee and the rebooted Meat Men. And all these regular kids suddenly learned that punk clubs were a thing because of Courtney Love doing a photo-op at the Satyricon, Portland's oldest, grungiest punk club.

So, all these skinheads plus all these regular bro type MTV watching boys who suddenly discovered punk clubs were a thing. It was fucking epic. Just shit and glass and fancy sweaters flying everywhere.

	10:15pm Mr Fab: I guessed i was amused enough by Soundgarden to ask to borrow one of their tapes from a friend and listened to it a couple times. Can't say i ever asked to borrow anyone's Nirvana albums. Who were not terrible, but I never felt the need to investigate them too deeply.

	10:16pm Mr Fab: Husker Du were the band that had my ears still ringing the next day! Started bringing earplugs to shows after that.
	♥ 10:17pm Rich in Washington: my favorite Nirvana story was the time we showed up at Satyricon to just blindly see who was playing and it was a couple of Seattle and Oly bands and one of them was Nirvana. We thought Seattle bands sucked at the time so we didn't go. Probably '89 or so?
	♥ 10:17pm ultradamno: I remember liking In Utero well enough but feeling it was like a sampler of hip influences of the moment, like a self-conscious demonstration they really weren't an MTV band.

	♥ 10:19pm Rich in Washington: I remember having immense hometown pride when Nirvana got big but then got really sick of them quick. Nevermind was fun but it seemed really overproduced to me. But must've listened to it a million times. One of the few things my then wife and I could listen to together.
	♥ 10:20pm Kat in Chicago: I wasn't that big a Nirvana fan, but I did own a copy of Bleach for a while. They played Metro a couple of times during the period I worked there, never saw them in a larger venue than that.

	10:23pm Mr Fab: I did really like Nirvana's pre-fame "Sliver" single. Apart from the song, I like how on the pic sleeve, Cobain is standing in front of one of my fave spots at the time, Raji's. At the time Courtney was also in Hollywood, dancing the hoochie-coo at the fabulously-named nudie bar Jumbo's Clown Room.

Even tho we've had decades of sound collage since, and digital tools make it so much easier to make concrete-type stuff, those old cut-n-splice tape works like early S Reich, "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me," this one, are just so astonishing.
