Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

A question for Eri: what's your take on prepared piano, or plucking the piano strings by hand?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
WR:

Really nice to hear Eri hum / sing the melody and then hear it on the piano, really lovely.
  2:42pm
Eri Yamamoto:

Fred, I sometimes pluck the strings. It gives different textures of the sound, and I love it.❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm

On a different tip. I saw Joan Wasser (Joan As Policewoman) playing a few years back and ever song she started it by humming.

This is so distressing to me, because I'm not color-blind but impaired. Let me explain: both my siblings were adopted, I'm white, my brother is Asian and my sister is Black. I'm so used to it that what are stark differences to many are ambiguous shades to me. I actually had to take aside coworkers to ask how they wanted me to identify them, because it was important to them and not obvious to me. It took a lot of explaining, because what I didn't see was a core value to them. Lose-lose situation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm

Hi Fred, I know you are a very open and friendly person. I think as long as we first see each person as an individual, and have connected a bit with the individual, then we can be open to whatever history they bring with them. If a person feels accepted then they can feel able to share without concern about other's expectations. My two cents.

New York is like a beautiful Mosaic. AS opposed to a melting pot. You don’t have to give up who you are, yer language, or clothing to be an American or a New Yorker. I think Paul Robeson wrote about this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Brian in UK:

Knowing how others see us is such a difficult thing. Most of the time it is when we have left this earth that others say what they think of us. So important to tell people when we are alive how we feel.

I'm a long time bike commuter when I lived in the city. I always checked the side view mirrors of cars to see if there was a driver and if there was, where they were looking. Never got doored, although there were plenty of close calls.
