Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Drummer fumes until curtain.
Avatar 🎭 6:58pm Listener Gregory:

I am not ready, physically or emotionally.
Avatar 🎭 7:00pm TonyR:

When those lights come up, Mister, you ain't GOT no choice but ready. [Throws cigarette to floor, stammps it out.]

Welcome Tony, Gregory and WR!!!!!
Avatar 🎭 7:01pm TonyR:

Someone bothered to bootleg "King Kong". Huh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I am eternally grateful to that person
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Webhamster Henry:

The curtain rises!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Welcome Henry, here is your program!
Avatar 🎭 7:05pm TonyR:

Audio is super low. And so drafty in here!
Avatar 🎭 7:06pm TonyR:

Thank goodness for self-powered speakers.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Webhamster Henry:

"I hate every ape I see, from chimpanz-A to chimpan-Z! No, you'll never make a monkey out of me!"
Avatar 🎭 7:11pm TonyR:

Last time I went to a real theater, I forgot to reutrn the ALD, which means, I no longer had my driver's license. While waiting in the back of theater next afternoon, I got to hear the director throwing a fit. I scrunched down to remain invisible, but that just made it weird when someone came to give me my license back.
Avatar 🎭 7:11pm Listener Gregory:

You know, I wondered how you managed to manipulated the stream to play that King Kong before yours. Don't deny it! We're wise to your ways, Bronwyn.
The poster IS fantastic. I was just thinking that, before you said it.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Webhamster Henry:

Speaking of Broadway, Bathtubs Over Broadway is coming to Netflix, folks.
Avatar 🎭 7:14pm Listener Gregory:

@WH, what is it?
Avatar 🎭 7:15pm TonyR:

God, I love the music from GG. There are two versions of this album, also. Never saw, but did go to a concert performance. And there used to be a boot on YouTube. It's honestly, one of the few enjoyable Cast Recordings (IMHO) in like 50 years. (YMMV).
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Webhamster Henry:

Fantastic documentary on Industrial Musicals and those who obsess about them .
Avatar 🎭 7:16pm TonyR:

Documentary about Industrial Musicals. Very touching.
Avatar 🎭 7:16pm Listener Gregory:

Thanks, @Webhamster. I recognize it now.
Avatar 🎭 7:17pm Listener Gregory:

I saw Grey Gardens (the original documentary) for the first time this year. I felt that my own life is just two steps from what I saw on the screen. But I really liked that song! (Maybe that's the problem?)
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Webhamster Henry:

There's also a doc on Mary Louise Wilson who starred in Grey Gardens. (who also was in many industrial musicals). www.imdb.com...
Avatar 🎭 7:18pm TonyR:

Don't get me started. "Around the world...."
Avatar 🎭 7:19pm TonyR:

Was surprised that Andrea Martin had a history in that sector. Martin Short? Not quite so surprised.
Avatar 🎭 7:21pm TonyR:

But my esteem for both Martin and Short grew.
  7:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey there Friday evening faithful!
Avatar 🎭 7:25pm Listener Gregory:

@Doug, I am more of a Friday evening fearful, but glad to be included.
Avatar 🎭 7:26pm TonyR:

Evening, Drummermeister.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:26pm WR:

Great episode on Sheena's stream featuring industrial musicals and guest Steve Young who did Bathtubs Over Broadway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Doug!!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@WR: Wow amazing- can't wait to listen to that!
Avatar 🎭 7:28pm TonyR:

Thank you, WR.
Avatar 🎭 7:30pm Listener Gregory:

It is an interesting mind that takes what some would call the greatest short story in English and think, "I'll turn this into a musical!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I want to turn the worst short story in English into a musical
Avatar 🎭 7:31pm Listener Gregory:

BB, that makes a lot of sense to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I will turn The Eye of Argon into a musical: ansible.uk...
Avatar 🎭 7:31pm TonyR:

For sale: Baby shoes. Never used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Bronwyn Bishop:

You could just change it to "tap shoes, never used"
Avatar 🎭 7:33pm Listener Gregory:

OMG, I have never seen that Argon thing. OMG. "The weather beaten trail wound ahead into the dust racked climes of the baren land which dominates large portions of the Norgolian empire."
Avatar 🎭 7:35pm Listener Gregory:

"Sentimental Mood" is a great talk-over tune, but it isn't from a musical, is it??
  7:47pm Listener Gregory:

The old songs are the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Re: Sentimental Mood- I was talking over the version from the cast album of the Broadway revue Black and Blue
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello, Bronwyn & Broadway babees!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Webhamster Henry:

Kids like David Niven and Cesar Romero.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Webhamster Henry:

I was wondering if you'd get to the Hungry Tiger Wizard of Oz rediscovery disks!
Avatar 🎭 8:04pm TonyR:

There was a great (PBS?) doc on L. Frank Baum and it talked about Oz' successful stage life before the movie. The still pics are astounding.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Webhamster Henry:

The other thing about Wizard of 1902 is that , dropped in for the stars to sing that had nothing to do with the show.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Webhamster Henry:

ahem .. there were songs dropped in...
Avatar 🎭 8:10pm Listener Gregory:

The book Bring on the Girls by PG Wodehouse and Guy Bolton talks about the creation of "Sally," which was extremely chaotic. The producer, Ziegfeld, demanded massive changes throughout the project, based on actors he wanted to include or exclude. He also rejected any actor who was "old" (regardless of the part), and he said he hated "women comics," which put the casting under stress.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm referring to the mind-boggle Woggle-buggling CD: shop.hungrytigerpress.com...
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Webhamster Henry:

AJH listeners should have a copy of Bring On The Girls right next to their copies of Not Since Carrie and Finishing The Hat/ Look I Made A HAt.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm WR:

I have a rip of that Hungry Tiger Press OZ CD from a library copy. Don't remember if I scanned the bookket.
  8:22pm Listener Gregory:

Trying to write a musical based on my WWI experiences but can’t George M Cohan to answer my emails.
  8:24pm Listener Gregory:

This Lieutenant piece has strong echoes of JC Superstar to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I love all that 70s rock opera stuff
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm WR:

I don't recall that I've ever watched The Tony Awards,
  8:36pm Listener Gregory:

Sensing a contradiction in this song.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm WR:

Yes, liking this one, until the guy started singing.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Webhamster Henry:

“You fill out your dress like no girl I know,” is a line that doesn’t work as well as you would think. In my experience, anyway. Maybe it’s my delivery?
  8:59pm Listener Gregory:

Very nice show, Bronwyn. It’s great to have a “normal” show again, with your usual fantastic mix of sources.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Aw thanks Gregory!!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks Bronwyn! I hope you can squeeze in a goodbye!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm WR:

Thank you Bronwyn! Great episode.
