Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from December 10, 2021 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Last time I went to a real theater, I forgot to reutrn the ALD, which means, I no longer had my driver's license. While waiting in the back of theater next afternoon, I got to hear the director throwing a fit. I scrunched down to remain invisible, but that just made it weird when someone came to give me my license back.

You know, I wondered how you managed to manipulated the stream to play that King Kong before yours. Don't deny it! We're wise to your ways, Bronwyn.
The poster IS fantastic. I was just thinking that, before you said it.

Speaking of Broadway, Bathtubs Over Broadway is coming to Netflix, folks.

@WH, what is it?
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
TonyR:

God, I love the music from GG. There are two versions of this album, also. Never saw, but did go to a concert performance. And there used to be a boot on YouTube. It's honestly, one of the few enjoyable Cast Recordings (IMHO) in like 50 years. (YMMV).

I saw Grey Gardens (the original documentary) for the first time this year. I felt that my own life is just two steps from what I saw on the screen. But I really liked that song! (Maybe that's the problem?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Webhamster Henry:

There's also a doc on Mary Louise Wilson who starred in Grey Gardens. (who also was in many industrial musicals). www.imdb.com...

Was surprised that Andrea Martin had a history in that sector. Martin Short? Not quite so surprised.

It is an interesting mind that takes what some would call the greatest short story in English and think, "I'll turn this into a musical!"

There was a great (PBS?) doc on L. Frank Baum and it talked about Oz' successful stage life before the movie. The still pics are astounding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm

The other thing about Wizard of 1902 is that , dropped in for the stars to sing that had nothing to do with the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

ahem .. there were songs dropped in...
Avatar 🎭 8:10pm
Listener Gregory:

The book Bring on the Girls by PG Wodehouse and Guy Bolton talks about the creation of "Sally," which was extremely chaotic. The producer, Ziegfeld, demanded massive changes throughout the project, based on actors he wanted to include or exclude. He also rejected any actor who was "old" (regardless of the part), and he said he hated "women comics," which put the casting under stress.
