Hi WR!! Still getting the hang of this interface. How is it now?

Dave M:

Volume dropped about 5–10 minutes ago and is still very low.

Got better after your first back announce. OK now.
sorry slow response, plating dinner.

Hello and welcome!!

djnogoodnick:

@WR Good to hear! And no worries. What's on your plate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
WR:

Tonight, tacos de lengua, ensalada betabel y nopales, pollo a la Mexicana. And beer of course.
Avatar 7:33pm
djnogoodnick:

@WR Whoa, did you make all that?

i just put it on the plate.

Ah, looks like an amazing place, and not too far from me. But I am meatless so probably a little less amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
WR:

if you eat fish their fish is good. The beet & cactus salad with walnuts & goat cheese is good.
Avatar 7:40pm
djnogoodnick:

I will definitely try and report!! Queens has such amazing eats and yes, I do make exceptions for seafood sometimes to be culturally indulgent. I've been really into Burmese Tea Leaf salad (made with shrimp) lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
WR:

Where do you get the Burmese salad from?
Avatar 7:46pm
djnogoodnick:

A rather nondescript little Chinese takeaway called "Asian Bowl" in Rego Park with a secret Burmese menu: places.singleplatform.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
WR:

looks good.
Avatar 7:57pm
djnogoodnick:

They're great! They serve American Chinese mostly I think because that's what the public wants around there, but I've been trying to spread the word about the Burmese menu.
Avatar 7:57pm
djnogoodnick:

I believe there is somewhere in Jackson Heights you can get it as well, however. Not a restaurant but a market with a food stand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
WR:

If I am on that part of Queens Blvd I usually get something from Knish Nosh. Will try Asian Bowl when next around there.
Avatar 8:13pm
djnogoodnick:

I should try that place! But I can't walk by Queens Center without stopping for a Mama's Empanada.
Avatar 8:14pm
djnogoodnick:

And I am very hungry now for the box curry I have waiting for me at the end of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
WR:

Sorry, thank you for keeping the music coming.
Avatar 8:31pm
djnogoodnick:

No apology is necessary!! The curry is my reward at the end of the show, and I can wait for it.
Avatar 8:34pm
djnogoodnick:

Actually it's really the pickle I eat with the curry that is the reward

Hi-is this the John Betsch that played with Henry Threadgill? (the Sextette?)
Avatar 8:42pm
johnec:

Damn, this is sick!
Avatar 8:44pm
djnogoodnick:

@Doctor Jazz Yes! But I have yet to dig into his 80s discography. I'm still on the amazing Strata East stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
doctorjazz:

That Threadgill band was one of the greatest bands ever, imo, of course...
Avatar 8:45pm
djnogoodnick:

@johnec Blows my mind as well, this whole U.K. crew.
Avatar 8:46pm
djnogoodnick:

@doctorjazz I will absolutely check them out on your recommendation, and Betsch's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
doctorjazz:

Their 1st 2 albums, When Was That and Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket, are the places to start.
Avatar 8:51pm
djnogoodnick:

@doctorjazz Next on my list and thank you! I admit to a big gap in my knowledge where the 80s are concerned, which I'm looking to rectify.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
doctorjazz:

The other 80s stuff to check out is stuff by David Murray, particularly the Octet. (80's is pretty much when I started paying attention to jazz, was fairly up on what was happening).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Doug Schulkind:

Good god do I love Norma Winstone's voice.
Avatar 8:57pm
djnogoodnick:

@Doug This song makes me ecstatic. The lyrics..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm

Just got here for the tail end, but enjoyed it, thanks Nick!

Agreed Doug, that Winstone track is great. Great episode tonight, Nick. Hi / Bye doc jazz and all

Thank you Nick.
