A different URL was in the email sent this morning.

Hah, I have multiple windows open, those last two comments are out of order.

WR:

Kenzo was doing some maintenance during the last hour, you may have been affected by that.

Ok, somehow I'm here, I'm so confused

WR:

Irral is a label I've never heard of and the info on discogs makes for a bizarre back story.

It's a strange first name at least

Forgot to check back to see if the king of tech had gotten this up. Good evening Kris & WR.

Diggin' this Joe Simon set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I thought Joe was from Louisiana and Wikipedia confirmed it for me
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Candy-O'67:

Do you have the Cleo 45? Oh, crap, I didn't hear that! How old was he?
🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
WR:

Irral Berger, The Swinging Granny, and she has song writing credits on both the Simon sides. Wonder if anywhere anyone asked Simon how that record got made.

Hi Matt and Candy.

Matt, can't blame Kris on this one. Kenzo was doing some playlist maintenance, he came on all the pages at about 9:30 PM and said that there might be some "hesitations".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Candy-O'67:

Yep, Matt, I believe he was from Shreveport, up my parents' way. My mom is from North Louisiana
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Candy-O'67:

I've got the Cleo 45. I got it in LA for a buck! He had a long run and he's partying in heaven now. RIP, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Candy he was from Avoyelles Parish between Barton Rouge & Alexandria but moved to the Bay Area in his youth
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Candy-O'67:

Oh, ok. I thought I heard Shreveport. Must be thinking of someone else
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I wasn’t blaming Kris WR. I was just joking at his expense. I figured it was something out of his control as the app was still showing the prior shows info after Kris started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Baton stupid autocorrect. I corrected one word but missed that one.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Candy-O'67:

I didn't even catch it, Matt! Lol
Avatar 10:33pm
Kris Holmes:

Dang, you forget just how consistent & great his 60s sides were
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm

If you had checked the message board you would have read where Simmesport is at. It’s like at the front of the ankle of the boot.
Avatar 10:35pm
Kris Holmes:

Ha, I'm still recovering from the shock of the start of the show
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Candy-O'67:

He sure did, Kris. Do you know of his '70's hit Cleo? I love that one, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm

From Cleopatra Jones Candy?

Candy-O'67:

😁
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Matt from New Orleans:

JJ Johnson did the soundtrack aside from the theme that Joe Simon wrote. Nothing spectacular but a real solid Blaxploitation soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Two Millie Jackson songs on there too
🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
WR:

On Wikipedia it quotes someone saying Simon carried on the flame of Sam Cooke, but on some of the tunes, when he starts singing I hear a tone similar to James Carr.
Avatar 10:49pm
Kris Holmes:

Doesn't sound like Sam at all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’m guessing in the sense that he came out of a Gospel background and recorded in Chicago but way rawer than Sam Cooke but still a little sophistication
Avatar 10:56pm
Kris Holmes:

Maybe, Chicago was a split second, way more southern sounding than Sam, maybe in the sense that he also started his own labels?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Matt from New Orleans:

We getting to the Gamble & Huff period?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Candy-O'67:

This is sizzlin'!🔥🔥🔥
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Joe Simon had a great career but just disappeared. His songs which charted highly never became oldies songs that would get played over and over.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Candy-O'67:

Such a shame they didn't, but kinda good, too, that his stuff isn't worn in the ground by Oldies stations
Avatar 11:09pm
Kris Holmes:

I wonder why?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Candy-O'67:

Me, too
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
WR:

Whole lot of lovin', great recording!
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
WR:

Yes, Matt, good point. Did he not ever get crossover hit enough to become popular with the white oldies fans and not considered an important enough artist to the dominant music critics to push him. Just supposing.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
WR:

sorry about my awkward sentence. fast one finger phone typing as gulping down late dinner.

Is "Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now" in the mix for tonight. Curious to hear that one.
Avatar 11:36pm

I don't have that one

Avatar 11:38pm

Thx for sharing, Matt. I'll check it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

It’s on an Electro/Rap label Kris. The album has some interesting moments but it’s an odd fit.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
WR:

Yeah, I'm always curious about odd.

Curious, I associate Misty Blue with Joe Simon, but Wikipedia says it was just a regional hit for him. Guess I was in the right region.
