Favoriting Cratedigger's Lung with Rich In Washington: Playlist from December 27, 2021 Favoriting

Rich in Washington's avatar View Rich in Washington's profile Favoriting

A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Spinning live vinyl like Rubberband Girl weekly. Sounding like playing old dusty gems around the pad here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Magnificent album that is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
WR:

When I did radio in me youth, we would have been happy to have vinyl. Pleased as punch to have had vinyl. No messy fussing with getting the "talent" in and out of the studio on schedule.
Avatar 2:13pm
Mr Fab:

This is just wonderful wonderful-ness, Rich. Do you actually have the "I Malamondo!" vinyl? I spent big bucks to get some import CD of it from Tower in the '90s.
Avatar 2:14pm
Otis:

You ARE normally an evening to late night DJ. Welcome to the day, sounding grand!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, it's so weird to DJ in any form with the sun up, with the exception to summer months where it doesn't get dark until midway through my regular show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Rich in Washington:

I DO have a scratchy, well-loved copy of Malamondo.

Bob Snyder looks like a 1970s driving instructor. (-:
Avatar 2:23pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, I love how some low-rent crooner can brag, "Hey baby, did you hear that I just recorded an album at The Dunes?"
Avatar 2:23pm
Otis:

Some choice 'new to the ears' private releases here, nice nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
Rich in Washington:

sorry to go all Billy Joel on y'all.
Avatar 2:26pm
Otis:

That was my kind of Billy Joel. Bob Snyder.
Avatar 2:28pm
Mr Fab:

Damn, this is making me want to hit the thrifts again. And I've had my compulsion under control for so long. Rich, you enabler!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
Rich in Washington:

You're lucky if you have any thrift stores in your town. Goodwill Industries has pretty much wiped them all out in my area.
Avatar 2:31pm
Mr Fab:

Wow, Goodwill has become the WalMart of thrifts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Rich in Washington:

I find some of my favorite stuff in out-of-the-way mom n' pop thrifts, usually in rural backwater towns, but we haven't done much thrift traveling since Covid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah, Goodwill Industries charges 3/4 bucks for crap records and anything 'good' usually gets sent to their online stores, so never hits the floors.
Avatar 2:35pm
Sonderangebot:

wow The Hustle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Rich in Washington:

This was a fun pizza joint in SE Portland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Jan Turkenburg:

WOW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

The thrift stores here have a guy that takes Discogs as his lead for pricing records. No matter how scratched, if an old Barbra Streisand Album is worth 30 euros on Discogs, the LP in the shop will be 25. Even though it is not unique or special in any way. And you could buy a new copy for a tenner in the discount record shop. Bit silly if you ask me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

And I never ever have found a Command Reords Enoch Light album here. )-:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Did that pizza place have live organ playing during dinner?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Jan Turkenburg:

This pinball track is a KILLER!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes, Jan! It was a relatively common thing in the US in the 70s/80s. Why? Not entirely sure but it's nearly impossible to relocate a pipe organ and pizza was surging in the mid 70s and all these churches were going out of business before Reagan. My theory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I can just see Elton John playing this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Would churches have had that Wurlitzer kinda organs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Rich in Washington:

@PK @2:39: That's too bad! Command Records/Dimension 3 are pretty common even in Goodwills, and they're usually really good.
Avatar 2:43pm
Otis:

This is making me hungry for a Pizza order this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@ Rich: I guess they aren't as numerous here -or they are with caring collectors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, some did. I'm playing something next from what used to be a church in my home town and they converted it into a pizza parlor. The Wurlitzer had mechanical percussion and everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Jan Turkenburg:

hahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Jan Turkenburg:

my @2:44 was for Otis @2:43 :=)
Avatar 2:46pm
Sonderangebot:

Very funny! I started to watch the old Star Wars last night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

These organic tracks are great fun.
Avatar 2:47pm
Otis:

We have some grand historic churches here in Montreal... but more Pipe Organ madness.
Avatar 2:47pm
Mr Fab:

I'm sure it's a regional thing, PK. Irwin once described old EZ albums like the Command releases as "landfill." Every American thrift, every record shop bargain bin had 'em. A record store clerk told me that he could price a Martin Denny album for 99cents and it still wouldn't move. But in NYC or the UK, they'd be like $50.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
WR:

Did not know organs and pizza parlors were a thing, except for chicken liver and onions pizza, yum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Rich in Washington:

I found an article about the linkage between pipe organs and pizza. I'll post it to the Sheena FB page later on, if interested.
Avatar 2:51pm

please do, Rich!
