A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

Oswald 5-0 was a Eugene band that put on a lot of great shows. They sort of owned a certain era of 90's punk for the city. We ALMOST got to play a show with them, which I still have a mis-printed flier from.

Tragically, Robert from Oswald 5-0 died in a car crash in the early 2000's. A great compilation of their material was released, but they never got the notice they deserved, in my mind.

Have had this on (loudly) as I do some work around the house, and I can’t believe how many punks songs there are about TV! It’s weird, there were almost no songs about TV before punk. Future archaeologists judging our culture by our music would have no idea what an impact TV had. Until they get to the punk era.

One of my big accomplishments at my old radio station in PDX was getting the singer of The Epoxies to do a radio show... which got her into DJing in a larger sense. She's hilarious, and a great entertainer. I heard that The Epoxies were coming back once Covid isn't a concern here...
