WR:

For some reason these covers focuses my thoughts on the aspect of the Rolling Stones career balancing cultural appropriation against acknowledging the Afro-American roots of rock and roll against creative pop purveyors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Funky16Corners:

That's a long conversation. I've always thought that some of Jagger's vocals border on minstrelsy.
Avatar 3:19pm
still b/p:

Standells managed to do a good version of 19th and own it even while it's not very different from original. I CAN get satisfaction from it.
Now my hair's blown back from that first high-velocity part of the Louis and Sam ride.

I saw an old Ready,. Steady, Go! recently with Otis. Chris Farlowe was also on. Otis was quite rightly very impressed with him. It was great to hear Chris sound so blown away when told what Otis thought of him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

That Chris Farlowe album is surprisingly good. It makes good use of his admittedly limited vocal talents, and the selection of tunes, including a couple of great soul covers is excellent
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Brian in UK:

Larry, have you ever covered the workings of Andrew Loog Oldham?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Funky16Corners:

I have not, but I should
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
StringOFperils:

Farlowe had limited range, but the timbre of his voice carried the day, even later in Atomic Rooster; no one else sounds quite like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Funky16Corners:

Have you ever seen the video - I can't remember if it was Atomic Rooster or Colloseum, where Farlowe is eating a sandwich during the song?

Ha ha ha ha. I have not. But I will look for that. Ha ha ha.
