Rich, I had to cancel my performance as my heart condition worsened. I was going to talk about XBOX consoles catching on fire, but most of those are hoaxes, anyway! Mark, Jon and SUE-C were great, and the show was streamed on Twitch. I left a few encouraging words in the Twitch chat room.

@Zipperhead7: I think my favorites are the Sex Pistols/Madonna ones (Ray of gob and Submusic). Mashups confuse genre classifier AIs delightfully

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

Ha ha @ New Flipper! Ah, the good old days of first-run syndicated dramas. In rural Maryland there was a crappy ABC affiliate that would constantly shuffle Star Trek TNG and DS9 around to different timeslots. Sunday at 12 noon? Could be! Tuesday at 10 if NYPD Blue was too controversial or had a dude’s butt in it that week? Sure, maybe! Saturday at 11:30 p.m. against Doctor Who on PBS? Definitely maybe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
fred:

This Variations series looks fascinating. But when can I find the time for it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Rich in Washington:

Variations is brilliant. Hats off to Wobbly.
  2:08pm
Kat in Chicago:

I’m going to do an hour of messed up CD music for my show one of these days
  2:09pm

I wonder if Stockhausen's Hymnen would qualify as sampling or plunderphonics. Not quite, I guess
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

I remember seeing a story on a guy who could guess 90% of the time what symphony was on a record just by looking at the grooves

Lucky Dragons did something like that when we saw them in the mid 2000s, Rich.

Thanks for the link, Rich! I came in so late to much of this, or had only limited awareness. This is exactly what I need.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Rich in Washington:

I got to where I could visually tell where music vs talking is on an audio waveform from years of editing syndicated news talk shows for local airplay at my station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Rich in Washington:

and what my ums and uhs look like from recording and editing a 'community calendar' segment for same station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm

@Rich: I just watched Sisters With Transistors this afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Rich in Washington:

That's really good, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
ironybread:

hells yeah, a great documentary fred
  2:24pm
Kat in Chicago:

I have been pre-recording my shows during the pandemic and I always check my mic breaks on the recording, occasionally editing. So I know what stuff looks like on an Audacity waveform really well at this point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
Zipperhead7:

This is really great. I used to show "The Amen Break" to classes

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm

I'm afraid I obsess over the edits in my own show a little more than should be considered healthy or normal

  2:29pm
Kat in Chicago:

Oh wow fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
Rich in Washington:

A few years ago, I was repackaging my KBOO shows to run on a streaming station out of Ohio, so took the opportunity to clean up my mic breaks, eliminating brain farts, ums, uhs, etc. - but I save all the latter on one audio file and eventually had like four solid minutes of uhs, ums, stammers, etc.
It was very therapeutic.
  2:31pm
Kat in Chicago:

LOL Rich! Are you going to share that with your Cratedigger listeners someday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
ironybread:

Beautiful, Rich! It's like Proctor's "Yale Distorts" tape edit piece from "Dear Friends"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
fred:

@Rich I think there was a project called "language removal service" (or something like that) that did that with speeches
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm

This makes me think of "Havana Moon" by Chuck Berry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
