Jeff:

My late great friend Doc Rock grew up in Jackson Heights. He was childhood friends with Nydia “Liberty” Mata who was born in Cuba but moved to Queens when she was young. Nydia and another friend loved Laura Nyro so much and were able to locate where she lived in Manhattan. Nydia and her friend knocked on Laura’s door, and she opened it up and invited them in. This was in the ‘60s, and Nydia became Laura’s close friend and percussionist for many years.

I had the thought that, when I strongly dislike a song, it's evoking something that I can't stand in myself. That's a kind of emotional connection with the music. I wonder if that's better in its way than feeling nothing.
