	👻 6:34pm Austin Rich: This story was the original "Pilot" story for "Voyage of The Scarlet Queen," but this version is a remake of the pilot. It omits some dialog and at least one scene. The pilot does exist, and is worth hearing, too. Maybe later on in the series?
	👻 6:35pm Austin Rich: Yeah. When I was 29 I was still in College, and couldn't keep a job for a girlfriend for more than a year.

	👻 6:37pm Austin Rich: While the sound quality of "Voyage of the Scarlet Queen," is not great, I think the sound production / design is pretty good. Even the really poor recordings are still pretty compelling.

	👻 6:39pm Austin Rich: Usually, you could fit a full show on both sides of a transcription disc, but it sort of depended on the show, the station, the speed things were recorded at, etc.

	7:05pm Mr Fab: Yep, Rich, this will be a two-hour show. There is an error in that show description, but the proper authorities have been alerted.

	👻 7:19pm Austin Rich: While the other three shows were half-hour shows, and weekly, "Chandu The Magician" was a 15 minute serial, and it was on every week day. I think they were still originally on transcription discs, but I can't be sure. It was absolutely geared for "kids," but some of the subjects and themes aren't really for kids, so I think it works for us here in the Jungle Room.

	👻 7:30pm Austin Rich: Probably my favorite old radio program, "Dimension X" and the follow up, "X-Minus One" are shows that are really a reflection of another era of Sci-Fi, but was only really getting a chance to be on the air in the 1950s. It was funny that, when I sat down to do this project, I found a number of shows from Dimension X that I had not heard before! So this was very exciting.

	👻 7:33pm Austin Rich: While I don't really know much about the actors that were on Dimension X (I haven't done that research yet), it was an NBC show, so it's likely that the actors were just part of the roster, and would do other shows between Dimension X scripts. I can only wonder what they thought of these stories.
	7:34pm Mr Fab: In the far-flung world of 1965, they listen to the futuristic sounds of "folk-rock," tele-vision screens are in every household, and Negroes can vote! The incredible World of Tomorrow!

	👻 7:35pm Austin Rich: It was only 15 years ahead of the broadcast date, too, which I guess is why they didn't have a more "fantastic" Sci-Fi concept in this story.

	👻 7:37pm Austin Rich: A lot of Bradbury stories, too. And Asimov; Dimension X and X-Minus One would take freelance scripts, and a lot of current authors took the chance to make a little scratch. Star Trek would adopt the same policy when they started up a little later.

	7:38pm Rich in Washington: What's the album, Fab? That sounds funny. I played the late 70s SNL bit where all these formerly young liberal people were turning into Bodysnatcher style Reaganite pod people.

	7:39pm Mr Fab: I'll have to go take a peek into the Record Closet From Hell and see if I can find it.
	👻 7:40pm Austin Rich: "Record Closet From Hell" sounds like a Stephen King short story that got made into a cut segment from one of the Creepshow movies.

	👻 7:43pm Austin Rich: This was the first show of a high-profile show on NBC, and it was the spring. I suspect a lot of people heard this story about getting abducted by aliens. How many alien abduction stories happened in the years after?
	7:45pm Rich in Washington: yeah, I've studied cultural precursors to the abduction phenomenon and a lot of sources credit the 1954 film Killers From Space but this is even earlier.
	👻 7:47pm Austin Rich: This story sort of has a bit in common with "The Day The Earth Stood Still." The original story was by Graham Doar and adapted for radio by Ernest Kinoy. (Who adapted a lot of radio stories for this show and for X-Minus One.) I wonder if Edmund H. North, who wrote "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (a movie that came out a year later) hear this episode... or read Graham Doar's story?
	7:47pm Mr Fab: found it - "Ronnie in the White House" by one Don McGuire. 1966. he sounded nothing like Reagan, but maybe in '66 no one really knew what he sounded like.

I think they were still originally on transcription discs, but I can't be sure. It was absolutely geared for "kids," but some of the subjects and themes aren't really for kids, so I think it works for us here in the Jungle Room.

	👻 7:30pm Austin Rich: Probably my favorite old radio program, "Dimension X" and the follow up, "X-Minus One" are shows that are really a reflection of another era of Sci-Fi, but was only really getting a chance to be on the air in the 1950s. It was funny that, when I sat down to do this project, I found a number of shows from Dimension X that I had not heard before! So this was very exciting.

I can only wonder what they thought of these stories.

	7:45pm Rich in Washington: yeah, I've studied cultural precursors to the abduction phenomenon and a lot of sources credit the 1954 film Killers From Space but this is even earlier.

(Who adapted a lot of radio stories for this show and for X-Minus One.) I wonder if Edmund H. North, who wrote "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (a movie that came out a year later) hear this episode... or read Graham Doar's story?
